The position of the top lady on the cover (it's funny, but after all this time I still can't recognise the members of 3rd Eye Girl) reminds me a bit of the faux-Indian poses on Axis: Bold As Love. Could chime in with the rock vibe they're trying to portray, and Prince's current look being a bit of a throwback to Hendrix.

Almost all new albums are released as vinyl these days and usually they include download code for mp3 and sometimes cd. In best case you get 3 formats for 20-25€. If you see packaging for double vinyl that says nothing about the lenght because vinyl of today is better than it used to be. Most albums are released on 180-320g vinyl and only 2-3 songs on one side. that gives the best audio quality and most audiophile reissues of old two-side vinyls are nowadays released as 4 -8 sides. Metallica split their recent album on 8 vinyls on the most elaborate setup wink

This is true. The only thing I hate is having to constantly change sides every two songs but I guess its worth it.

Commons last album The Dreamer came on a single vinyl...and while cheaper did suffer the lagging quality like older single albums withn the last song scrunched to a t.

Couldn't you record it digitally from the vinyl to get the same sound? That way you wouldn't have to change sides.

I was in ..... at the weekend and I bought the new album by ..... . A bit naughty as they let me have it two days early so obviously I can't use the download code yet. But it feels so good to have a 'proper' album in one's hands. Also something magical about smelling the machine assembled detail of the album, removing the round of vinyl from it's sleeve and placing it upon the turntable, guiding the needle to the record and waiting for those first sounds to come forth. It makes listening to music a ritual almost. Places it in higher esteem than simply touching the download button on my iphone.

I guess it gives you a physical connection to the music that has been lost over the years. Because of the extra effort you put in you give more attention the what you hear. Not sure if this rings true for everybody or whether it's just a load of bollocks. Your choice. But for those that have never had the experience I recommend you buy Plectrum Electrum on vinyl and see what you make of it. It's so much more than seeing a few bits progress on your digital screen.

A good high(er) definition release gives the sensation of listening to them thick studio tapes.

That is enough for me. lol

I've recently started buying Vinyl again, it's making a massive come back, even for DJ's who play house music etc... over the past few years its all been CD's and Midi controllers from Laptops, mainly to do with the fact smaller Labels wont pay for Vinyl pressings in a market thats already struggling because of MP3 downloads.

I love having a physical copy of an album and alot of the new vinyl comes with free Mp3 downloads of the album so for a couple or pound extra its worth investing in the vinyl even if you dont come to use it, its cool to have and keep and you can always do a copy on cd of the mp3's.

Would the vinyl with the free Mp3 download count as 2 albums bought on the charts?

If mr P does a `proper` worldwaide release soon enough, I migth be able to obtain some Australian versions... >:-]

.

But knowing his track record it is more likely that the album (if ever) becomes available over a period of time and for a very limited time only.

If I count right it looks like 11 tracks.

11 tracks - FFS. I could never understand why in the 80s some of his albums had only 9 songs when even then he was known to write & record so much!

.

How about you go figure out how much music one vinyl record could contain.

Right:

In great sound quality
a LP vinyl contains: 2x 26 minutes maximum, afaik = just over 50 minutes total..

......However "Dirty Mind" on vinyl (and cd) contains a little over 30 minutes only, total...

there were room -on the vinyl LP- for:

1. Gotta Stop (Messin' About),

2. Extralovable

and 3. Lisa..

(if -in case- they were written at the time of the album-release(?) )

wink
