U see! U're doing it again! I'm not comparing the topics and u perfectly know it. I'm comparing the METHOD but now u try and make me look like the nuts who puts The Black Album and Auschwitz on a similar level. What I say is that your intellectual METHODOLOGY is exactly the same as THEIRS. I have studied the question of how negationists, creationists and other political activists and conspirationists are making their points in spite of facts and common sense, and how they manage to be extremely convincing while in fact selling vacuum cleaners, and the METHOD is exactly the same. And my point is that when u "sell" this "method" to people on unimportant topics, u're contributing to create a general atmosphere of intellectual mediocrity that paves the way for those who do the same on serious and dangerous topics. I strongly suggest u read Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, by the way. I don't adhere to a huge part of Rand's ideology (I think at some point in her later life, her failure was precisely to make the mistake she was denouncing: losing rationality and being blinded by her own beliefs) but nonetheless her novels show wonderfully the whole process of how the apparently innocent belief that "we can't know anything for sure so we can believe everything" paves the way for disasters and intellectual manipulations. Now go on and keep denying all u want, but the fact is that I have a point and I sincerely hope that even if u're never gonna admit it, you know it in the back of ur mind. Ok, glad we cleared that up. Holocaust denial is absolutely despicable. I do not want to be associated with such horrendous denial of historical facts and human tragedy. I agree that the belief that "we can't know anything for sure so we can believe everything" paves the way for disasters and intellectual manipulations. But I also think it is disastrous to believe that we know all the facts so there's never a need to question received wisdom. Critical analysis is a necassary part of historical research. Do the evidence hold up to scrutiny? In this case, I think not. Do I have an alternative theory. No, I don't. Ok? The wooh is on the one!

Yup What are some of the precursors to the song on TBA? I can't think if any songs released by Prince at that time that sounded like Dead On It, Bob George, Superfunky and When2RInLove. 2NigsUnited may have had some forerunners on The Flesh Album - Junk Music comes to mind. Le Grind, Cindy C and Rock Hard? Some SOTT B-sides perhaps (La, La, La, He, He, Hee and Shockadelica)? The wooh is on the one!

And then Cindy C -- Stroke after stroke callin' all others a joke.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracks were recorded in March, 1987 at Prince's Galpin Blvd Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions that produced Dead On It and Nine). After "The Black Album" was initially canceled, the track was broadcast on 9 December, 1989 as part of The New Power Generation Radio Show, hosted by Prince (under the name Me, Myself and I) and Robin Power, Ingrid Chavez and Levi Seacer, Jr.

Well Rockhard was originally intended for Camille and then Crystal Ball, so there's an obvious connection there. The album always seemed to have a Parliament influence to me, but it's a bit more jam based than their records. Still, the silly sense of humor and overall dirtiness of the sound do seem to have stylistic similarties. Had Prince had much dealing with George Clinton yet? Clinton's The Cinderella Theory was released on Paisley Park a few years later, so it's possible. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

"Cindy C". Wow. The story goes that Prince sent a bodyguard over to Cindy Crawford at a club one night to see if she would like to chat with Prince, and she refused to meet him. So, he wrote a song. A filthy song. A GREAT song, though. This song has the always dependable Sheila E doing the drums, and Prince's back-up dancer CAT as a hype-woman (Think Flava Flav to Public Enemy). One verse in the song that really stands out is when Prince painfully pleads "I'm talkin' about a long crucial leg/ Girl if I have to beg/ I'm gonna see you in yo birthday suit tonight". This is where it gets very odd, as towards the end you faintly hear Prince screaming in the background to Cindy Crawford. Crazy, but since this IS the Black Album, all rules and standards are out of the window. It is still a great song, if only for the music. It leaves you feeling dirty, which is our buddy Prince's plan.

What I'll never even understand is WHY would P be attracted to Cindy Crawford in the first place, or the whole world as far as I'm concerned. With all due respect for the lady -I think I can write this safely because it's unlikely she'll ever come here and read it-, I never understood how she could be perceived as being attractive, particularly with this disgusting "beauty" mark that P makes a whole (hilarious) fuss about. In my (uncommon I guess) opinion it makes the song sound even weirder, as if it was an earlier version of Work That Fat. I'm sorry, different folks different stokes and shit, u no. I've met people who've told me they found Vanity totally unattractive which to me is a total WTF and on the other hand I've met people who found Cindy C extremely attractive but very honestly it's beyond me even without the "mole" and so is the vision of "moles" as anything else than a monstruosity that should b chirurgically removed but that's my damn opinion and it's totally subjective I also despise arthropods if that can make u feel better (usually people say I'm nuts when I say that) A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Back on topic, TBA is easily in my Top 5 of "Best Prince Albums Ever". I just love that album, from as early on as I got that incomplete 1000th generation copy on tape (worst sound quality ever!) somewhere in '88 or '89 from a schoolmate who was a fellow Prince fan. - A nice anecdote related to TBA: I was very excited when in the early nineties I suddenly ran into a CD copy of TBA in a Dutch record store. I took the CD to the counter and asked if I could listen, no problem. All excited I put the headphones on, only to find out that some anonymous artist(s) had made meticulously excecuted cover versions of all the songs that were on TBA!! - As it didn't turn out to be Prince's TBA I left the store very disappointed without buying the CD. I still regret not buying it till this day, because I remember I was actually well impressed with the quality of the cover recordings. And I would have loved to listen to it again, once I got over the disappointment of it not being the real Prince CD. Well, I do like the taste of crab and lobster, so they do have one use, but I don't really ever want to have to look at them again.
To get back on topic, I was quite suprised to hear you refer to TBA as a continuation of the SOTT sound in the original post, as to me Lovesexy was the one that maintained the poppiness of SOTT while TBA always seemed like a genre piece in dirty funk (kinda like how The Truth is the "acoustic" album.) It's rather strange in hindsight to look at TBA as potentially being the next "proper" release in Prince's discography since it now seems almost like companion piece to Lovesexy. I guess the fact that it wasn't going to be released as a Prince album kinda answers my question in that regard, but it still seems weird to me that the next piece of music that fans were going to hear in 88 was going to be TBA. Yeah ok i only worked 2 decades with labels, please give me a break already with your PRINCE gospel and dates and names of sources in his circle, blah blah blah. So EXPERT whats the real story on the childs death while you are preaching the word of Prince here? Were detectives really brought in investigating foul play, was it rumour, was prince on some sort of medication as quoted by those two nanny's that Mayte hired that sold their stories for cash. Did Prince have a death cerificate really "forged" cause you know that is a crime, to create a story that has the father listed as "unknown" there is no way he could get away with that. And this was reported by every source including uptown, but that right there is a crime, if he lied on that document, or were the sources lieing and "prince" was really on the death certificate as the father which if he was telling the truth, he was the father and that has to be listed on the death certificate and you can check that out with any legal system in any part of the country, law enforcement etc.. If prince knowingly forged or lied on that document.
As for his deal, clearly you dont know the difference between advances and deals, where did i say they handed him $100 million? that also is a rumour, some at WB have said his deal if held wasnt even valued at half of that. His signing was for albums over a period of time. Advances are what they give you to record the record, its called a budget like when they make a movie, you get a certain amount and if you go over you either lose money from your deal or do it out of pocket depending on who you are. I have worked with bands for over 2 decades from little shit club bands to Richard Julian Norah Jones etc..and helped emi with Van Hunt though he was a prick and Dave Grohl's new unreleased project, so please dont tell me about deals and advances sir.
As for Prince uptown is not a source, its a fanzine at best, i read that thing for years like it was gospel but as years passed alot of BS was found.
