Imho, there's 1 (and only 1!) truly bad song on The Hits / The B-sides compilation,

That truly awful song is: The Pope... yuck... a hiphop crap-song right before the beauty of Purple Rain closes disc 2.

Sorry this imo.

It's a huge crime, it's deleted from my iTunes "The Hits" playlist,

The Pope
>>>> yuck, never liked it at all, the hiphop sound is awful.... barf

Yes, but did the addition of the definite article impede communication, insofar as the song referenced couldn't be easily identified? Evidently not, since everyone here is clearly referring to the song "Pope". Ergo, your objection to their incorrect appellation comes across as needlessly pedantic.

I'm tellin' you guys,if "Days Of Wild" had been released in the summer of '94 (as originally planned),hip-hop fans would have a whole new respect for Prince wink That song is his most convincing rap number. It sounds totally genuine and 100% street.

This is nuts, why not say "The Purple Rain" or "The Raspberry Beret" and also "The Star Wars" while were at it?! I can understand ONE lost soul making a title mistake, it happens to us all, but here we have a full thread with everyone mistitling a song, that's a bit insane don't u think??? eek eek eek

U're speaking nonsense: we say ATWIAD or SOTT because it's shorter and faster to type, it's not mistitling the songs/albums, it's a shortcut. Calling "Pope" "The Pope" makes no sense at all: it's LONGER! It's exactly the same as calling ATWIAD "Around The World In A Day For A Boy Holding A Balloon" or "Purple Rain" "A Purple Rain With Darling Nikki Holding A Blue Computer When Doves Cry": whoever'd do that would be called a nutcase!

Ha, okay, you may be right.

I don't tend to care that much in the case of Pope, though.

While there is indeed a case to be made for comprehensive adherence to accuracy, I am not sure it necessarily needs to be followed in a very informal internet discussion about one of Prince's more mediocre efforts smile. In addition, I do not think that the examples you provide are particularly relevant in this case. Prince clearly refers to "a raspberry beret" within the song, thus the addition of the definite article in order to add specificity is somewhat nonsensical. While this is not the case with Purple Rain, it is one of the best selling albums of all time, so one would hope that it is always entitled correctly, ditto with Star Wars in reference to film series. In contrast, Pope is a rather obscure b-side, and the absence of the article feels very unnatural, given that the title "Pope" is pretty much always preceded by a definite article, thus making the mistake of adding one to the title of the song understandable.

Anyway, we shouldn't argue about such things as they probably don't merit the effort, so to get back on topic I'm just going to say that you're all wrong and the rap in Girls & Boys is the best Prince has ever done, all ten seconds of it. wink

Agreeing with this. I've turned over so many non Prince fans by playing stuff like this for them (meaning stuff they've never heard since Prince buried under a pile of other stuff). The Undertaker, Exodus and several bootlegs have made believers out of several of my friends.

Adorecream

Its one of the worst, down there with Mr Happy and Face down, lame as fuck, even Tony M and TC Ellis could do better.

Days of Wild and Acknowledge me are good raps.

Now, My name is Prince and Pussy Control are acceptable

The rest of Prince's rapping is between decent and absolute crap.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I kinda like The Pope when it was released, but hearing The Pope now doesn't make much impact. The Pope is a typical Prince filler, Prince has better rapsongs than The Pope.

Days of The Wild is best. Better than The Irresistible Bitch, The Sexy MF, The Horny Pony or indeed, The Pope.

But he even sings it in the song..."you can be the Senator, I'd rather be THE Pope. Check it. It's after The Cream.
