PEACH & BLACK PODCAST : Dirty Mind Review
First Aired: Thursday, February 27th, 2014
http://peachandblack.podb...nd-review/ Where we come from, we don't give a damn ! We say whatever we please... Time for some revolutionary rock n roll as we review the classic album from 1980 - Dirty Mind.
It's all about being free.
. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Cool review guys, glad to see you reviewed this album now rather than waiting until October 2015 for the 35th anniversary.
The most overtly sexual and dirty album he ever made, and yet it is just so good, the rhythms are amazing, the songwriting is a huge leap up from Prince and its funny as hell. Rather than come across as sleazy and dirty, it comes across as clever. Prince was one sexy motherfucker.
Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Guys- so nice to hear you mention me at the end!!! I really enjoyed the review and the observations about how he had such amazing bass lines in his first few albums really got me thinking and (as usual) agreeing. I saw a Victor Wooten clip on YouTube where he said something similar about Prince's early bass lines- he then played Let's Work!!! Awesome show-

The point of Sister is to give the listener a sense of his defenseless or helplessness, he plays the part of the victim.
Yet the instrumental portion is full on aggressive punk rock. [Edited 2/27/14 19:47pm] I knew a girl named Nikki.

For the Peach and black crew- what kind of equipment are you using to hear all that you hear in these albums? Caption- in the Lovesexy review you were pointing out some very subtle atuff on the title track. Actually, you do so very often. I want to know what you are listening with. Is it all via headphones with a high quality DAC? I bought some new NAD gear and heard the rhythm guitar on Erotic City become far more clear- I also heard Prince's 'I's at the start if the track very clearly - much more than before. I also heard backgrounds in Adore I had not heard before but I do not (yet) have an external DAC

Nothing that special, some old Marantz amplifier from the late 70's - still sounds amazing, old late 80's Denon cd player and my Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones .. that's it.. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

For me personally, dirty mind is Prince setting a precedent for his future song writing and songs. He keeps it funky with a lot of edge to it and that edge is mostly in the form of rock. I think any fan at the time either went with album and loved it or they didnt get it at all and hated it,theres no fence sitting with this album. One of his best albums, raw, edgy and full of the unexpected which is what I as a obsessed fan of Prince likes the most about his work. Every album is different from the last and its all a natural progression when u look back on his albums on a whole.

Love your shows, lots of laughs in this one 😄 Love this album but rarely play it, I think it's because I've had it since approximately '87 & have played it to death over the years. Uptown & partyup are faves of mine. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Excellent work fellas and a great review. Excellent analysis as ever...and the last 5-10 minutes. Funny as owt and made the drive to and from work on my first day back after the Academy on 22nd so much more pleasant. Can't wait for your next review. Great review guys. Feel like sticking up for Gotta Broken Heart Again though. I think it's a fantastic song because of, not in spite of, it's simple directness. It's not a massive prince seduction ballad with hours of screaming and vocal showcasing or massive high-concept ridiculousness. It's got a lightness he rarely has with his ballads and one that keeps me coming back rather than say, Do Me, Baby which, while brilliant, I can only listen to about 1 time in 10 when playing Controversy.

Excellent work chaps - another excellent review of an excellent album - Prince's gamechanger. For me, not a weak track on the album - I especially love the title track. I know it's not the best tune, but it's that descending synth line just hits me right in the gut EVERY time. Simple, but brilliant.
Being a postman, I'm definitely one of those people cracking up whilst listening to it on headphones - usually seems to happen when someone else is approaching in the opposite direction! When they look at me quizzically, I just point above their head, quicken my pace, give it 10 seconds, then have a sneaky look over the shoulder to see them messing around with their hair. Nice.
