The Essential Boots I'm by no means the hardest of the hardcore but I do enjoy a nice rarity from time to time. Among those who know, what would you say are ten recordings, studio or live, that any fan would find irresistible? They should be great quality and have something musically special about them.
Of the handful I have, my very favorites include:
City Lights set of soundboards from 1982-83 Small Club 87 Birthday show 6-7-84 LA 3-29-04 Dream Factory album Miles Davis sessions
Fanx!

Not a soundboard but New Morning 87 is essential. You'll never hear any of his various bands play with more feel and groove. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

I hate this, why must it only be "talk about". Prince himself said, he didn't mind fans sharing music in a non-profit fashion...So what gives exactly?!

That would be my holy grail. I keep hoping for some miraculous computer program that can convert bad sound to good with one click too.

What's the general consenus on what the best ONA main show is? Do any soundboards exist apart from the obvious example of the official release? I've got Sabotage's One Nite Alone In Paris and that's really good, but I'd love to hear an even better performance in perfect quality. Still, not hopeful on being able to procure any of this stuff given that the usual channels have gone over the past few months . Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

Either that or we take Prince hostage until he releases his copy from the Vault. You up for it? A soundboard quality version of 'Wasn't My Faith' is worth doing some serious jail time for! Man, that performance is mindblowing! don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

"One Nite Alone In Copenhagen" on the Sabotage label is a very nice soundboard of the aftershow at Club Vega on October 26th. IIRC there are a handful of versions of this show, but the Sab one does the job nicely. There are also various bits of ONA Soundboard recordings from soundchecks/shows etc available on "Continental Drift," also on the Sabotage label. Sadly no soundboard recordings circulate of a complete main show.

I thought the ONA Chicago boot was the most enjoyable. I really liked that tour when it was in the earlier stages. It changed a lot as time went on and he took it overseas.

The whole show is great. Just had 'Sex Machine' on. It was one of the very first bootlegs i ever got, it still blows me away, despite the sound quality. I think i would cry tears of joy if a soundboard leaked.

^^ That list is tentative at best, with just a quick glace I can say that an awful lot of these are taken from video recordings and not true soundboard.

Oh yeah, that's true, should've twigged upon seeing the New York Dirty Mind show listed. Still, it's a start I suppose. Mind attempt to go over the list at some point and label their origins and whatnot. Incidentally, what would be preferable sound quality wise, a video or an FM source? I don't really know the answer to that. I guess at least some of it depends on how they were recorded and shit. Dunno!

I'm in the minority, I think but I love DJ Foefur's revamps (everything from 1999 to Batman + Dream Factory.) Then again, I'm a sucker for speculative albums or reconstructions. I need The Dawn 4.1 but I can't find it anywhere. 'Tis an elusive beast.

First of all, Blimey!! How did you find that!!! Well done
I must have posted that YEARS ago.
But most importantly that list was given to me many moons ago as a printout by another orger and if I remember correctly it did give loads of source/origin details. (I was just too lazy to type them out)
Unfortunately I have no idea who sent it to me originally and although I must still have it (I never throw anything Prince related away! ) I wouldn't have a clue where to look.
On a plus note though someone on here has it, you just need to find them. Some people are like Slinkies...

I think I just did a search for "soundboards" or "Soundboard list" or something along those lines in an attempt to answer luvsexy4all's query, and just copied and pasted the first list I saw.
Shame about that list you have, would have been helpful, but I imagine some knowledgable person might see this thread and help us out. That's what I'm hoping for anyway, tbh my self-imposed task of attempting to find out the origins of all those might be a little too much for me, fun as it is to play internet detective.
My problem was with shows where a video recording did exist, Paris Dirty Mind for example, but none of the sources I was using indicated explicitly whether the bootlegs took their audio from the video. Would it be logical to assume that to be the case, or is it possible the actual soundboard surfaced independantly of the video?
My other question is whether any other soundboards exist of more recent shows than the ones detailed in the list. I seem to recall reading that the well of soundboards had pretty much dried up over the past few years, but I may be misremembering or thinking of studio leaks. All in all, I think someone with more experience in these matters than me is required. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...
