De La Soul were lucky enough to make it at a time when record sales earned people MILLIONS and they probably kept a relatively "normal" lifestyle ever since and wisely invested their money from back then so they can live forever on the cash they made in the 90's.

Prince, on the other hand, has the excessive lifestyle and expenses of a major rock star, so he needs every penny

Paisley Park Studios, keeping a full staff working for him 24/7, having all his clothes and jewerly made specifically for him, private jets for any trip outside of Mpls, 7 stars hotels or costly second residences when he's outside of Mpls, etc... that's a bit beyond your normal daily expenses

PP is a business that does outside work as well. Like FUN rehearsed their tour their..Having clothes made is probably cheaper then buying btw...Jewlers probably give him peices..how do you knwo what he used for trips..Teh promoter covers the costs of most trips and residences while on tour

He's been reported to have spent fortunes in jewelry in the early 90's, both for himself and gifts to girls.

Prince has also been reported to be in financial trouble from 95 to 2000 because his expenses were more than he could afford. It was not just gossip, some close collaborators of his mentioned it.

Good news if PP can be rented again but I'm really surprised: Prince actually never intended it to be available to anyone but himself and his protégés when he built it, and WB forced him to have bands like REM recording there for free to get back on their investment, but when he left WB PP became his private garden and I thought it was never reopened to other acts. Are u sure of ur info regarding FUN?

Prince being self-produced I don't think any promoters cover anything when he's on tour. I know he worked a bit for Live Nation in 2010 or 2011 and of course there's the festivals every once in a while but aren't his tours self-produced?

My uncle was in high fashion and he used to work with millionaires, including some rock stars, in the 80's, and once I told him "what can these people need SO MUCH money for? There's just so much you can spend in a day" and he told me "u have no idea! every little thing in these people's life is top quality, they won't suffer anything cheap, they afford any eccentricity that goes thru their mind and believe me they DO find ways to spend the money, all of it!".

Prince certainly has a very moderate lifestyle by comparison to some other rock stars, but still I can believe that his monthly expenses must be more than what you and me both do in 10 years

well 1995 to 2000 as michael bland said, he put it all on the line to get what he wanted. im sure skipepr not hurting for $$$$. My sis worked for russell simmons back in the day.. As she likes to say , their vapors arent like our vapors.

At one time Prince had a 7 to 10 million dollar wife beater made of jewels, that he showed the number 2 jeweler in Hollywood.
