Prince's "kids" and the Vault

I was listening to the Indigo2 aftershow from week 7 of 21 nights, and He opened the show with a rant about pressure (from his label) to put out a "single" that would "sell records like the good old days."

The suits were pushing him to decide between Cleasea Rodgers and something else (I had never heard of) and he was telling them to back off.

"They are both my kids," he said.

It makes me wonder whether we are EVER going to get a chance to hear any of the countless hours of recordings--including EVERY SHOW-- that he has in the vault in Minnesota.

On one hand I justify the bootlegs to myself (knowing that He HATES them) by saying that it would be CRIMINAL and IMMORAL for the world --with the exception of of a few 100 or less--to NOT be able to at least hear, if not experience, something like Small Club.

On the other hand if they are his "kids," then he has the right (if not the absolute ability) to decide who sees them, when and if.

We all know that He was very poor when He was young, sleeping on friends couches and smelling Mcdonalds' french fries etc.

That poverty (as is SO OFTEN THE CASE WITH GREAT MUSIC) shaped his vision both musically and from a business POV 4 sure.

It makes it hard to draw the line between the ownership of His art and the revenues from it.

I would think that someday it will all come out anyway, so hopefully He is making plans now.

Maybe 1 record every year on His birthday?

I would happily act as a trustee.
