I remember reading an interview with Rita Ora mentioning she's gona drop her next album out of the blue. I think it might be her & not Prince

He really should do it, it would be the best method for him to release music at this point, without a proper record label deal. I hope the March 31st release date is true, can't believe it's been nearly 4 years without a new Prince album!

To do a Beyonce don't you have to release it out of the blue? We've been waiting for Plectrum for so long that if the blue was the ocean, it's so far removed from the blue that it's just past Voyager outside of the solar system.

the reason why Beyonce's release faired so well because although there was anticipation of something new by her fans that knew she has been working on new music for sometime, there was no single, no viral videos, no radio airplay, no new anything out there outside of one song leaking months prior to the release, no promotion, nothing outside of a few accidental leaked photos that hinted at something happening.

Beyonce used $25 million dollars of her own money to visualize the album through video and released it simultaneously with the album. thats the other thing that was so cool, visuals for every song

People where expecting a new Beyonce joint for a while, there was just no date...Then it came out of the blue!
Same with Plectrum...no date BUT we're expecting it! Who knows what he has up his sleaves anyways, not necessarily a video for each song but maybe something else as a surprise...Maybe Itunes would get an exclusivity period and then the vinyl and cd comes? He seems way happier with the internet at the moment to be honest, and quite active...
I think something will happen in the next few weeks...

Secret artist set to drop new album on iTunes like Beyonce - but who?

Apple is reported to be structuring a deal with an unnamed artist for a major iTunes exclusive, following the success of Beyonce’s iTunes album launch in 2013.

A source at SXSW told Digital Music News they were not able to publish any names, but it will be a major artist we’ve all definitely heard of.

The artist in question is said to have really liked Beyonce’s strategy and independence of only working with iTunes on her self-titled album.

"iTunes and Beyoncé are very happy with the results of that exclusive," said a source to the website. "So you’re going to see something similar coming up, [unnamed artist] really likes the idea.

Spotify won’t get this, nor will any streaming service for that matter. You will have to buy this from iTunes."

The deal will be exclusive to iTunes, meaning it will be unavailable on Spotify on any other streaming service.

According to reports the artist will use a mix of social media like Twitter and Facebook to seed out special giveaways and bonuses in the lead up to the release.

Better keep an eye on your Twitter feed then!

Any artist who attempts to do what Beyonce did (release a new album on iTunes without any hype or advance notice),would simply be considered a copycat.I doubt that Prince would want to be seen as a copycat,doing what someone else has already done.

I heard a rumor that it's either Mariah Carey or Lady Gaga (with a deluxe edition of Artpop containing a bunch of leftover songs from that project)

Gaga would make sense since she's hinted at a pt.2 for her album plus all the problems with the Artpop album, controversey with R Kelly setting that back...

Still, although some would say it's copying, maybe Prince will do something along with the surprise album drop to make his unique?!
With the release of "Fallinlove2nite" it suggests he does still care a little about chart success and of course every artist, no matter how successful they've been, after working hard on a project, will want to reach as many people as possible and gain large sales!

Exactly! I don't see Prince as the copycat type. Prince was always a leader, never a follower, and I can't imagine him following in anyone's footsteps.....that was never his style.

Prince a copycat...sorry Beyonce got to much credit for doing it that way in the first place. Didn't Prince release albums via only the internet, long before Beyonce did?, Didn't Prince release albums via Newspapers as a giveaway? Copycat he ain't, if it's even him.
