GiggityGoo said: The reason I ask is because on the drive in to work this morning, I was listening to the "Paisley Park" extended edition, which I haven't heard in a few years, and I remembered how blown away I am by all the AMAZING guitar work at the beginning and at the end. I have to say, the guitar in this song is probably my favorite out of all his songs. It's incredible how on the one hand it sounds heavenly, and yet at the same time it's angry. Just brilliant, inspired stuff. Totally agree. I'm a big fan of the "Paisley Park" remix - love the guitaring. Loadsa good stuff to choose from, shame that the extended mixes are very much in the past tense. If I had to pick another 3, for me, "I wish u heaven ", "Mountains" and "America". . The smattering of sound effects in the "Paisley Park" extended version don't bother me at all, as I'm so wrapped up in the music that I get lost. . But I will agree with you that, when Prince goes nuts with the effects, it can get tedious. I loved "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" when it was released, but I hear it now and all those cutesy effects really diminish the power of the song itself. The "Gold Experience" version is even worse. . And then you get into all his late 90s stuff, with "Dead like Elvis" and various female moans and so forth, and it almost becomes a Spike Jones record. . Don't get me wrong, I love the man's music, but not all of it works for me.

Love this question. 12" singles were a big thing to me and my friends and Prince really was for all of us the epitome of a real remix artist.
I think for my all tme favorite (which is impossible in all honesty) I will have to go with Pop Life/Hello because the 12 inch versions add so much more than just new music but the lyrical additions add greater depth to the overall song. I can't imagine Hello without "words are like shoes" or Pop Life without "Whats the matter with your sex".
Now, if you asked me while I was standing in a dance club, without a question it is Erotic City.

Any non-album cuts of Gett Off, Computer Blue, and Darling Nikki are harder, meaner, and funkier than the originals. Glam Slam is the biggest change. The original version is so dorky, but the extended remix is a highlight on any Lovesexy era tracklisting.

I agree that the Universal Love Remix deserves a mention--but I also agree it's just an honorable mention.
Probably Shockadelica.

I would have to say all of the extended mixes from ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT & Lovesexy are incredible. They're a really important part of Prince's musical legacy. Some of my favorites are Hello, Kiss, Mountains, Anotherloverholeinyohead, Raspberry Beret, She's Always In My Hair, America, Paisley Park, Alphabet St. (This Is Not Music, This Is A Trip), Glam Slam/Escape and Housequake.
