it costs less for him to tour and charge 100-200 per ticket perhaps we will never see a cd

besides, he has not been able to create enough demand - aside from a few die hard fans here on the org

lol Well, this is probably an intelligent marketing strategy by Prince. In my opinion, Bowie's last album, however great it is, received an even better reception due to the expectation he created. With his new album, Prince is creating an unusual expectation. But hey, this won't be enough. The album has to be great, and that's where I have my doubts.

i agree with that. Bowies last album 'the next day' was a truimph and it lived up to the hype and a year later i am still listening to it at least weekly.

Prince has a reputation of releasing shaky singles/albums lately and therefore means that it must be a stonker in order to create sales. He should have dropped it in the middle of his london runs. But didnt.

perhaps when he said he was going to "drop the album" at the last show in the uk , he actually meant Drop The Album down the drain

I think he should have released it right after super bowl/new girl, that would've been a smart move. A wasted opportunity

With the quality of the tracks already released, at least for me, the album will automatically be better than the worst of his albums (the NPG solo albums, Chaos & Disorder, Slaughterhouse, Chocolate Invasion, Kamasutra), so I'll be buying it regardless.

Change it one more time..

This is indeed turning into a Gold Experience fiasco. I for one hope it's a GOOD 10 track album but it has an iTunes deluxe edition with 10 extra jams (insturmentals, recent outtakes that didn't make the cut, etc)

He should release it, do a US tour (playing 70% material from the past 10 years), morning news tv, radio (tom joyner, steve harvey), and have videos and a real website..

then i woke up. lol smh

If the comparison with Gold Expericence is actualised. I'll take that right now, a 2 year delay for an album of that quality* DEAL.

*just nothing musically akin to "We March" please!

Don't know why, since "Plectrum Electrum" was the album Prince played for Epic's L.A. Reid. Even if Prince walked from the Kobalt deal (I've noticed they've ceased promoting Prince and Liv Warfield on their social media accounts even when they were on Arsenio) it seems likely Epic would pick up Plectrum even if there is also a "Prince" solo album in the works.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Prince keeps making friends amongst the industry everywhere he goes right?

Tell me about it. Kobalt made the mistake of thinking that Prince was comfortable with being an indie DIY artist who didn't care if he got played on the radio and would promote his music through other means. Based on recent interviews where he's expressed frustration over not being played on the radio and not having hits, as well as comments from his mouthpiece Funkenberry on various Spreecasts about Kobalt not giving him enough "incentive" to release his music ($$$) it seems Prince never was happy with the Kobalt deal and just signed it out of desperation when he couldn't get anymore multi-million dollar upfront payments from any magazines or newspapers.

Prince clearly wants to be on a major label and on the radio so this Epic single may just be a "tryout". Even if you don't like the song if you want to see "Plectrum Electrum" released you had better hope against all odds this song gets airplay and is a hit so that he'll go ahead and let Epic release Plectrum. If not, PE is likely going into the vault.

I still think PL will get released, but i do think this single release will push it back a while longer. But judging by the mojo article, and the interview of the reporter Prince does believe in the album, and wants it to be heard

who says its a test? The picture of the test press of plectrum electrum seems to suggest that it is still going to be released. It what capacity, and by whom, who knows? But that picture posted was put there to put to ease the fear that it wont get released.
