Wow is The Unexpected

from HQ on facebook

Psst!... If you'd like to know what the opening track of Plectrum Electrum sounds like, then take a listen to Liv Warfield's new album...

"U can call it The Unexpected or U can call it... WOW"

Did Prince describe it or the interviewer from Mojo? I hope it is the same song as it sounded good on the PA system the other day.

Mojo supposed to be out tomorrow so we may find out more then, or have you already got it and that's how you know P described it?

The writer might have got confused due to Prince's habit of not letting journalists take notes...

if u read the post about album info from mojo magazine on this site, wow is described as a instrumental track by the reporter doing the interview who has heard the album

Yes, I've seen that but I was a bit confused when you said Prince described it as instrumental but it was actually the reporter after hearing it then, as far as we know at the moment

i would put money on wow being the unexpected and the reporter getting it wrong as somebody said, not aloud to take notes etc, Prince comments on wow in the interview thats why i said about prince saying it. Anyhow hopefully will will so find out

Yes you're probably right, hope so. Suppose it's clever to have the same song on both albums but with different titles. Like the lyrics say 'u can call it the unexpected or u can call it wow'

I've just got the Mojo mag here's what is says on Wow:

'First up is a blistering, Led Zeppelin-like instrumental called WOW. Adapted from The Unexpected, a song Prince wrote for the NPG backing singer Liv Warfield, it must be the heaviest thing he has ever recorded.'

I haven't read it all yet, its quite long

Is there a full tracklist for the album?

I've just quickly scanned thru it cuz its about 15 pages of interview and pictures and I'm in work but no track list or release date

.

Just mentions of a few songs throughout the interview, that we already know from the other thread (wow, fixurlifeup, whitecaps, tictactoe, funknroll)

.

Only additional bit of info I could see is funknroll is the last track

Cheers! I can imagine 15 pages full of nothing (Prince-style interview) biggrin

But the Prince vocal version of The Unexpected/Wow was played over the PA at Manchester,is there a instrumental and a vocal version or is the reporter getting a little mixed up? smile

Yes, I heard the Prince vocal version at Manchester on Saturday and it sounded really good but the fact the reporter says its an instrumental adapted from The Unexpected validates it a bit dont you think. As usual nothings straight-forward with him!

.

There was also a remix of Pretzel played on the PA which I thought was better than the original (didnt have the big shouty chorus) but will this ever be released.. Unless he does an EP like he did with Breakfast Can Wait

I'm pretty sure he mixed up:

- Plectrum Electrum - "Led Zeppelin-like instrumental, heaviest thing he's ever done"

- Wow - "Adapted from The Unexpected, a song Prince wrote for the NPG backing singer Liv Warfield"

- Plectrum Electrum - "Led Zeppelin-like instrumental, heaviest thing he's ever done"

- Wow - "Adapted from The Unexpected, a song Prince wrote for the NPG backing singer Liv Warfield"

In which case, it could be that Plectrum Electrum is the album opener, not Wow.

- Wow - "Adapted from The Unexpected, a song Prince wrote for the NPG backing singer Liv Warfield"

Would you call Plectrum Electrum "blistering"?...I'm not sure I would. However, I can imagine a re-worked instrumental version of The Unexpected by Prince to be blistering.

I find it hard to believe Prince only had involvment in 2 tracks on this album. I think the more likely scenario is that he pretty much did the entire album and is just being very generous by minimimizing his footprint to only two tracks.

Go to princevault.com and look up the album The Unexpected, all the info is there for you.

The guy who did the Mojo interview has answered a question on twitter from a fan and he said he might have got the titles mixed up and the instrumental one might be Plectrumelectrum instead of Wow, as he only listened to it once and it was 2am. I hope this is indeed the case, as it would mean there will be at least two good songs in the album!
