2Elijah, you should not try to apply motive or intent. You do know that 'A Good General Rule, criticize ideas, is what you're not doing.
I'm connected enough to Black American communities to know what I'm talking about. I'm not some disconnect 'brutha' I have solidarity with that part of my heritage. So please stop trying to judge me. And take this too personally. This stuff is obviously more sensitive to you. But that's not my issue or problem. I don't speak nice of messy things. I speak highly of any people individual ethnic community that deserves it. Including 'black' folk. . Don't generalized. I'm clearly talking about specific people and mindsets. Don't act like these are not issues of hair (especially) lol go to any site about Beyonce and it's her hair they zero on. Let's not pretend these are not issues. . Also I'm travelled enough to know that most 'non Black Americans' in other countries tend to be more accepting of the 'natural-ness of African people' Even into Canada. Unless things have changed in the last year. Canada Toronto Montreal and a few other places the Afro-Canadians tend to have a different mindset about hair textures. I've always found that many wear their hair 'naturally' whatever that texture might be. . We are not talking about 'white women' or asian women. the comments are about Prince an American man of African descent. Yes when it comes to women, the need to conform and mainstream is much more an issue. Men don't have to deal with hair body type as women do. . We are talking about people on this board who constantly see a picture of Prince and the first comment is his hair. I follow differnt topics on this Org closely and look at what kinds of things people bring up. There are some people that no matter what picture gets posted they zero in on his crotch. There are have been many in the past year that focused on Prince wearing a hair clip on piece during Controversy his hair type/wigs or extensions during Purple Rain, and 'his hair couldn't grow that fast...' Lovesexy must be a weave etc . Overall white people in a general way like that are not that into Prince's hair or the hair of 'black folk' It's black folk that care that much. Movies shows and books are created by 'black' folk about hair, not really white or not blacks.

[Snip - luv4u] Also, no, people from other countries are not that accepting of the 'naturalness' of African people or you wouldn't see mocked, racist stereotyped images coming from people of other countries. Very easy to find that on the 'net. Oh, and by the way, I still can't accept your last comment, so I'm not going to waste my time with you on this. So again, I'm glad Prince is rockin' that 'fro. oh Gawwd, I said those hairstyles (not dreads) re-read it You created a whole judgemental post based upon WRONG reading . I said twists are not as common now. Dreads are in, Afros are in, brush cuts, low cuts, bald looks. . Twists are not in like they were in the mid-late 90s Sorry I don't see a bunch of 'black' men wearing twists

I don't think that Prince is wearing a wig. I think that it's his natural hair, and that he now wears it that way because it may have gotten thinner with age, as most people hair tend to do. I am a black female in her early 50's and I have let my natural hair grow in just like Prince has, because it was thinning, and it is fuller in it's natural state. I can either wear a fro like Prince or straighten it with a flat iron if I choose too, but I no longer wear it relaxed, like Prince used to, because it is thinner when relaxed. If Prince is wearing a wig, then it's a darn good one, but it appears like it's his natural hair to me. Anyhow, I think that Prince looks good with an afro, and he will probably keep it, because as he ages, his hair will probably get thinner and thinner, and a fro helps cover that.

Sorry, but I was commenting on an issue, U are making things personal. AGAIN. stop it. I can make a judgment about anything I want. Just because U don't like it doesn't make it wrong.
And you need to get out of the country more. African beauty is FAR more accepted and appreciated in other countries vs America
You are generalizing a great deal on other ethnic grous and countries. Travel. the NET is not travel.

The things that come up about Prince's hair is weird. I don't see how people think he's wearing an afro. I love natural hair, no matter the ethnic group, hair type etc. I think that's why I love the 70s so much. I hope he grows it out further

Yeah, but let's not forget that Prince's dad was bald in his later years, and baldness is hereditary, especially among men, although Prince could possibly take after his mom, and not lose his hair. However, if you look closely at the top of Prince's hair, you can see that it is thinner up there than it used to be.

Yeah it's not a wig.......perming your hair over time will take a toll and maybe he decided to get it healthy...who knows. And the "wild fro" was a style back in the 60's and 70's. Let's all grow our hair to a fro in solidarity! Love God and I shall 4ever Love u

It would be different if it were a well groomed fro. It's just not Prince. Prince has been the "pretty man" for ages. Now he's sporting a scraggly fro? Just doesn't suit him. He's still the man... but yes... fro gotta go

Prince is still a good looking guy, the fro doesn't change that. Prince seem to have mellowed with age, and maybe he doesn't care about the hair or makeup like he used to. Relaxed hair like Prince used to wear, takes a lot of time, effort, and care. Maybe Prince no longer wants to deal with all of that, or maybe he no longer has the same person that cared for his hair back then, who knows? The man is getting older, maybe he just wants to relax and enjoy the rest of his life, and not sweat all of the stuff that he used to take so seriously in his younger days. Face it guys, the Prince of Purple Rain and the 80's is gone. He's not the same man anymore! He's older now, and he's changed. No one or nothing stays the same.

Nooo NNoooooooo . lol Yeah I think for a long while Prince was doing his own hair, so the person who hooked him up in the 80s ... man, that person is gone . He's not retiring lol he's only 55 that's usually when men have midlife crisis lol I like the afro tho. He's older but last year he said he didn't want to work with old people, just young ones lol or something like that.

Isn't it funny how female fans (no, it's not black vs white) desperately try to ignore the fact that Prince can't fight his genes?! His hair thinned out years ago. So what? He's a human being. The same goes for his looks. To me Prince looks like a clown who is not able to let go.

No need to be rude, we are merely exchanging ideas. . As for the "black culture” discussion, I do believe that Prince is very much aware of what he´s doing and the way he looks. I am convinced that almost everything in Prince’s world is done consciously with a certain goal and aiming at causing a specific affect. In this case, the fro might be a way of accentuating his Afro-American side to cause a general more positive view on black culture. . Apart from that I think that the fro is part of another reoccurring theme throughout Prince’s career, the overcoming of opposites (male-female, black-white, good-evil). Recently with 3rd Eye Girl, this is expressed in Prince (male, Afro-American - i.e. the fro) and 3rd Eye Girl (all female, Caucasian). By expressing the union of (apparent) dichotomies, they are transcended into oneness, with innate qualities like equality and equanimity. . Still to me, the fro simply doesn’t look good.

Cool that you are embracing your natural hair. I agree about hair if being permed for a long, period of time, can cause hair thinning or get damaged if not well taken care of or may thin it more as we grow older and when its in its natural state it really is so much healthier. My son's gf is known throughout the 'natural hair circles' and travels the world educating women of color (even men), about natural hair/hairstyles/how to take care of it, and many women are being inspired by her knowledge of natural hair care, and embracing their natural styles. I won't reveal her name here, to protect her her privacy, but she has been and is an inspiration to so many women and men of color who embrace their natural hair. I've noticed throughout my years of travelling outside the U.S., that in many places there aren't enough hair products that are available for many women of color. I remember when I was younger, there weren't many hair products for women of color available. That used to be the case in the U.S. for awhile, now I am so happy that there are a plethora of products available for natural hair care in the U.S. now. I like that Prince is embracing his hair, and seems very comfortable with it. That's a good thing. [Edited 3/9/14 6:39am]

i bet the people on here saying they hate the fro are white people. I also bet they have no idea how offensive and racist their comments are in the eyes of black people. You should just leave the mans hair alone and let him be happy. People on here just complain about everything he does. They don't like his music, his setlists, his band, his hair, his way of doing business. There are ther artists out there to follow since this man makes you so unhappy.

I haven't seen a hairstyle which looked good on Prince for many many years.
Why is that? Take a look at photos of his father and you know what the real problem is. This and the fact that Prince wants to hide it at all costs. It's just embarrissing!

I love his fro, hope it get's bigger . Prince has made his career on the whole creative scope of Music & Image. I suspect any other superstar like:Michael Jackson & Madonna who similarly have used image and look to coincide with their albums/music, get the same deal of critique from fans. And non fans. Dealing probably with 'agism' as well. . I would say Questlove hasn't built a career on looks along with music. Let's face it. Prince has admitted it many times before, that the look is just as important. Some of this, alot goes into the nuances of pop culture at large. Style Music Videos Presentation etc
. Fro got 2 Get bigger...

hair coloring isn't the issue. almost everyone dyes their hair at some point. I know people in their early 30s with grey. lol funny that you studied him that closely that you want to see that he had color running doing his face? seriously? lol probably just swet and lighting.... Prince isn't that cheap Nah I was front row and you couldn't miss it...it was like mascara running but from his temples I don't think he was on stage long enough to work up a sweat....unless it was a cold sweat because he knew people would be annoyed that he only played for 80 minutes and 19 songs when a all the other shows were 2.5 hrs or more (it got booed which everybody seems to have glossed over) [Edited 3/9/14 11:41am] P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

Just the way it is, I love the way he works style along with his music, not as much in the 2000s as in the 80s and 90s. But I think that's an issue as far as conforming to religious dictates. But his look now, I think coincides with the 'classic' Rock direction he's going.
lol I agree, thogugh, the I hate the fro threads are too much

It is really a racist thing to dislike the way a man's natural hair grow. & sadly most of the people who dislike the socalled fro (which is a synonynom for natural hair) are african american who still straighten out their hair with chemicals or weave it up or wear a wig (simply cuz they thinnk they can fool the white man into believing that's the way their har actually grow...well no one is fooled, and to tell the truth...the white man laughs at these relaxers weaves & wigs ) It took a long time for the slaves to finally get some rights in America...howcomb they can have the right to grow their hair the way it naturally grows ?
Prince is Beautiful ...& the most Beautiful Ever with his Beautiful Natural Hair. Socalled Afro....socalled Fro ....He is looking better than ever...Just true friends and people who love him will see that. & that's all that matters.
