He's certainly looking a lot older all of a sudden and I Can't work out if it's the dodgy fro, his bingo wings or the fact he's dressing like a cross between captain caveman and the Texas Tornado

The question is how did you arrive at the assumption that it is a wig? Most wigs are neatly shaped and cut. Prince's 'fro appears natural, just like natural, black hair grown out but not shaped or cut.

Prince has always had a great style. From 83 and onwards (aside from his ultimate low poing NPS)his different styles have been fantastic. The fro, whether a wig or not, is the most uncool thing of his career. That and this chaplin cane makes it almost unbarable to watch him. The fro in connection with Prince's racial issues makes the whole thing even more dubious.

---/Once again speaking on black culture and talking out of your ass. That fro is his natural ass hair. Are you saying that he looked better when he straightend his hair making it look more European. Think about that for minute.

Yes, his hair is certainly Hendrixy. I'm used to seeing Prince wear his hair perfect with not a strand out of place. Even his fro back in the day was tight. I think that's why for me this disordered fro took some getting used to. He's just like "look, I dont give a f*ck, deal with it". I am curious to see how his do would look if he flat ironed it out now that he's got some length to it.

Definitely Hendrixy, as you put it. lol He seems more comfortable and free with his hair in its natural state. With it growing longer, I'm wondering if he would rock it in a natural, twist 'do.

[Edited 3/8/14 9:52am]

Natural twist 'do, you say? People would lose their damn minds. The org would need to go on hiatus.

His hair looks a million times better natural. It makes him look more youthful and funky.

I just find it strange that some people want to touch his hair, as though it's some kind of experiment and they want to see if it will react in some way or if something will jump out and smack them in the face. lol Oh and about twists, if he should ever do that, I'm sure it will probably cause a 'shock and awe' for some, who may find the twists too ethnic, but won't admit that's the reason they don't like it. I'm glad he chose to wear his hair natural, at least at the present time. He hasn't done that since the early days of his music career. Matter of fact, around the time, he stopped wearing his hair in a 'fro, big 'fros were on their way out. Lately, between 2013 and 2014, I've been seeing a lot of Black males/females embracing their natural hair textures, and wearing their hair in large 'fros or other natural hair styles.

That could be it, some folks miss that European, permed-hair look on him. That same hair was always natural hair that just got chemically treated/straightened. I guess those that don't like it, will just have to get used to the 'fro, whether they like it or not. I don't know why anyone would immediately assume his natural hair is a wig.

Yup. Funny cuz right before the new year, I started wearing my natural hair in a twist and one of the first things my Jewish friend said when she saw me was "oooh, can I touch it?" I didn't mind tho, I like my hair being played with. It's just hair, not some alien creature growing out of my scalp. I suspect Prince probably likes his hair being touched too but it depends on who is doing the touching.

This is true. My son's girlfriend, has a 'fro as large as Andy Allo's, and people constantly wanting to touch her hair. I guess it's about who it is, that is approaching you, to 'touch your hair' is what matters. lol

Thank you. Some people will never get black hair despite how much you try to educate them on the subject.

[Edited 3/8/14 6:26am]

Exactly. I find even when he wore his hair chemically treated, some still thought he was wearing a wig. I wonder sometimes where some of these folks get their education on the 'various' textures of Black American hair, and are they aware Black folks actually grow hair or that they actually have 'naturally' textured hair? lol I mean, what do they think? I think some of his fans forget he wore his hair natural when he first introduced himself to the world, with that same, natural look, and then later, started perming his hair. I find it sad that some of these fans think his natural hair is unacceptable, as though there is some, specific, social standard in how he is 'suppose' to wear his hair. I mean come on, even Jimi Hendrix's 'fro was never 'in place'. They need to just let his hair 'be'.

[Edited 3/8/14 7:30am]

U guys do understand that those folks are most likely 'black' folk, right?

U understand the politics of hair within 'black american' communities

Any woman with long hair get's questioned, it must be a weave or extensions because black people don't etc etc etc

The self hate some have because of 'good hair, fine features, fair skin' so they have to discredit somehow the person targeted. So Prince of Purple Rain and Controversy and Lovesexy, get's threads created about him wearing hair pieces and extensions. Seriously someone made a big issue about Prince of Controversy wearing a hair piece, Prince of Purple Rain had extensions and Prince of Lovesexy is either a wig or a weave

.

Personally I hope he get's it huge and fluffy like the latter part of the For U era

Will give him more variety to do stuff with it (just no braids or dreads) we got enough of that in 1999 for Newpower Soul/Rave

Off the top of my head I can think of a bunch of people with odd looking hair that nobody ever says a damn thing about...

George Clinton

Nikki Minaj
Snoop
Grace Jones

Rick James

Elton John

Just to name a few.

Enough already. rolleyes

Not to mention racist... neutral This shit is worse now than when I was a kid...

He is just rocking the hair he was born with, that happens to have length now hence the fro. I love it.

lol Of course you would say that. Are you talking about those here, assuming he's wearing a wig? First of all, I would say it's mostly non-Black fans on this site, that constantly question if he's wearing a wig, mainly because many non-blacks are not familiar with the various, hair textures of Black people as a whole. As a Black American I am familiar, with the various hair textures, among 'Black Folks', yes, it is questioned among Black Americans towards one another regarding if one's hair is a wig, weave, natural, mainly because there are various hair textures among us, from kinky-tight, kinky-wavy, kinky-straight, etc. Nothing new, so it's not surprising that sometimes you can't tell. That doesn't dismiss the fact that many non-Blacks here, immediately assume Prince is wearing a wig, even when he permed his hair. You have to remember he has an international fan base, so some, not all, have limited knowledge about Black hair types, as well as the various cultures itself.

By the way, dreads, twists, braids and other natural hair styles, have made a comeback in the 2000s, so if Prince chooses to twist it, braid it, etc., it's no problem here. He looks very comfortable sporting his natural hair, and so glad he is embracing it.

Fiinally a rational post. First of all, the sense of entitlement among his fans is bewildering. Prince does not have to dress and style his hair for anybody's edification. His hair is bushy and wild and if it was really a wig, there are better trimmed afro wigs he could have wore. Some of y'all are too damn familiar with your fandom.

Yes, in the black community we do subject ourselves to nonsense concerning our hair. However, the demographics of the org is not a representation of the black community. So I would not agree that the negative comments regarding Prince's hair are most likely being made by black orgers. That is not to say that all blacks are digging his afro because that is not true either. When it comes down to it, it is simply personal preference even though those preferences can be racially motivated.

Noo, It's easy to tell by the content of the comments. It's not mostly non-Black people going on about styling products, extensions, color running down his face, weaves

.

Come on, I've heard these comments over and over by black girls, ranting on another 'sista' with long hair whether it's an afro or some other texture, that it must be a weave or something. Non-white ask questions in my experience, they don't go the extent of it must be a wig weave bump and curl press and color etc

.

Yeah I'm talking about this board.

I like the twists of New Power/Rave, I think for a man it is an age appropriate style. I love dreads, I don't think those looks work on Prince and his fashion for too long. It's not about not liking them, it's about wardrobe.

.

Also those styles (not dreads) twists and braids, aren't a regular style for men of Black descent in America now, it was in early 2000s late 1990s.

.

Again, I love that fluffy from of the late For U era it was huge and I think wipping that around while rocking is hot

I agree with MJOO7, I don't believe the majority of the orgers are from the Black community, especially this being a site open to international fans. Both MJ007 and I, at least agreed such comments come from both communities, but you cannot deny that non-black orgers don't get into these type topics, when they are on this thread making their opinions about his hair or assuming it's a wig. Their comments are in print on this thread. How could that be missed? lol If others are outside of that community, and have curiosities/questions regarding that community, who better to represent, and stop any stereotypical or misleading views about the Black community, and answer their questions, other than those who are part of that community and have no problem correcting false information about it? Would you rather someone who hangups of that community or have limited knowledge of that community, pass off misleading information to them? I think not. If that occurs, of course there will be those here who identify with the Black community, who will be the ones to give the correct information. No biggy. As to the topic, I'm glad Prince is embracing his natural hair. He rocks it comfortably. smile

[Snip - luv4u] For example, I've been around various racial groups, all my life, and I will tell you, you will find the same. I was on the bus going to work and 3 white ladies complaining about white females who dye their hair blonde. Not to mention the continuous conversations of some Puerto Ricans demeaning Dominicans or some from the White communities, making derogatory comments about Russians or some Dominicans making comments that some from their community, deny they can speak Spanish, etc., etc., I've heard it all, so yes, all communities have their faults, but what you mention in your post, still does not deny the fact that comments about black hair, don't come out of the non-black community, and they are not always nice. Let's just be real about it, and not give an 'excuse' passes, shall we? LOL No one here denied that among Blacks, that they don't make those comments within their own communities too. Again, glad Prince is embracing his natural hair, and yes, orgers on this site, including non-black orgers, will continue to assume he's wearing a wig.

Oh, and to your comment that dreads, twists are not hairstyles of black men of the 2000s? Are you serious? LOL. Come to NYC and New Jersey and your head will spin. There are so many Black males, with dreads down to their azz cheeks, and some wearing large 'fros. OF4S, you really have to get out of your community more to know this.
