I know he named it punk funk, but it's nowhere near punk in any form if you have any idea of how punk sounds. It's much closer to sounding like a mix between Parliament and disco. He knew how to put parliament music into a more strict soundin club friendly format. The Bar Kays, Cameo and a bunch of other people at the time did similar stuff. However Prince embraced the New Wave alot more. Of course he was inspired by Rick James, but I believe them both learned from eachother. Prince was alot closer to punk in sound than Rick James was. But Prince felt not comfortable with the Punk Funk tour name. It didn't really represent their music. However Prince had alot more rough edge. And Rick James stole synths from Prince to get the Princey synth sound. Even then, he still sounded more like a disco-pfunk artist. But I love it anyways. So I'm not hating. I'm just saying that the punk funk word is a gimmick. Rick james never really managed to cross over. He hired a white guitarist that looked and sounded like he came from a rock band. But Rick james no atter how hard he tried, it still was just a disco/funk-band with some rock guitar. Prince suffered a bit with something similar on his first two albums. But he eventualy managed to seamlessly glue together rock, funk, pop, new wave with his Diry Mind album, and many times after. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

There was no producer on the "Prince" album.

Hell yeah, it's a classic. It's a gem embedded in gems. That's my way of saying the album's pretty darn great too. Was just listening to it the other day on the ipod. God bless you, Prince. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I just listened to the Prince album in its entirety for the first time in easily 5 years (maybe even closer to 10). I forgot just how great the album is! . Still Waiting might be the "worst" song on the album, but it's still great and has a lot of charm. I don't think it's a classic though. WYWTMSB, IWBYL, Bambi and I Feel For You are the classics of the album.
