I would love to see Prince on the show, just to see Prince shake his head and throw shade at the other performers.

The fact that he's never done Jools is almost as frustrating to me as MTV unplugged never coming off.

Ain't gonna happen. Later has a specific formula where genres are mixed. Specials centered around a single artist are exceptions and haven't happened in years.

Also, can someone buy Prince a calendar? Later is not on now, will probably return around April. Oh, and it is taped on Tuesday for a Friday broadcast (one hour long), and there's also a live broadcast (half hour long) after the Tuesday taping.

The series will start in April and run for 12 weeks, he could tie it in with a tour, the album will be out by then what's wrong with that?

But Jools Holland is a one trick pony when it comes to the piano. Delirious would be forever spoilt.Amazes me how people like him can get so far as "pianists".

What?? I thought 'pub boogie-woogie' went well with everything! lol

I also hope we see Prince on his show, though. And it'd be good to see him interviewed about his influences, experiences as a musician, etc, too; maybe even a little segment at the piano. I've heard Jools express great admiration for Prince before, and mention how he always wanted to get him to appear on The Tube in the 80s, so I'm pretty hopeful that it might happen now Prince has signalled his willingness.

Agreed, PLEASE have a clause where Jools is NOT allowed to play with Prince, though would LOVE to see him on this show.

I never thought I'd see the day!
I also heard somewhere that Jools didn't like P.
"We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Might be because they could never get him on the show! lol They were all a bit 'too cool for school' at that time, so it wouldn't surprise me if he did slag him off. Nonetheless, I do recall him saying getting Sheila E on the show was part of a strategy to get P to come on (which he never did), so there must have been some interest.

I also remember seeing JH introducing a late night run of programmes on Channel 4 sometime in the mid/late-90s with Paula Yates, where they showed Sign O' the Times. After the movie finished, Yates said something like, "I know he's talented and everything, but don't you just hate him??" Jools completely deflected it and said something like, "Well, I think he's a great musician, great producer...", and it moved on.

Who knows? Maybe there was some animosity at one time, but I'd be surprised if the old 'tribal lines' from the 80s were still in effect today. Certainly, these days, JH seems to be pretty good at giving musicians their due. (That said, I'd smash his fingers if he even tried to sit in on the piano.)

Having heard most of Squeeze's output I consider this unlikely. Also he seems to have no real taste in anything save for what might be in the spotlight given any particular week; he's basically a human manifestation of Q*.

*My American friends, this means he's essentially shit.

he should let jools (by the way is a brilliant boogie woogie style pianist) play on 'gotta broken heart again' then metamorphosise into 'sign of the times' with a heavy rock beat (with all those flat cap wearing arsewipes stood in the background, looking like norman wisdom, going 'whaaa?') and finish with fixurlifeup.

yes, i should be the musical director of the show.
