So What Gear is Prince using in 3rdEyeGirl Hoping someone is into Prince's gear, i.e, he is not using his iconically boring cloned Höfner telecaster. He's got a big fat Hendrix type sound, dare I say Kravitz (omg) and it's kinda Rock. Rather than such carefully perfect Prince.
Any feedback welcomed, 'bout his sound with the great girls, equally as good as prince sonically, in their own right.
Plus the tone is to my mind a Modern Retro sound. It's rock.
Specs appreciated, from the grainy clips I've seen it's difficult to know if Prince is playing a Japananese ESP, or some form of Gibson (Doubtful).
The Woman Guitarist I think is playing a PRS.
Interested what those with an interest have to say. ~PClinuxOS~ ![]() ![]()

his usual pedal setup. his guitars are both made by Vox. a black one and a custom flame one. not sure about anything beyond that.

Cool, thanks for your replies. Interesting.
Certainly took me by surprise, the whole 3rdEYEGirl thing, but he seems to be fit and enjoying himself, which really is the main thing, ... taking a bit of getting used to.
Maybe that's the deal, a fresh sound. ~PClinuxOS~ ![]() ![]()

The painted guitar looks like an SG, it's got two P90's in it.

I was just thinking about after seeing this photo:
because apparently he has some new effect, you can see it between wah and mic, but I can't tell what is it exactly - any ideas?
re: guitars I think both are Vox 77 series, one black and one custom painted
btw here's an interview with Mike Scott where he also tells about Prince:
http://www.voxamps.com/artists/mike-scott/
Prince, Ida Neilson, and myself all play VOX 77’s and that’s the only guitar he wants us to play. I use the lead voicing for lead stuff and chunky distortion. I also use the crunch or clean voicings for funky rhythm stuff or effect based stuff like wah-wah, envelope filter, or vibe type sounds. Anything you want is in the HDC-77.

Thanks for that
Hey, Yggor thanks for the Pic, and link, he could be using any Combo of effects, and changing them as he feels.
I do recognise the sound of his Flanger.

For someone that claims to be a great musician, I find it funny that you can't count to four. I think people that don't even play an instrument know what a trio is. [Edited 2/28/14 2:16am]

Yeah, I had a giggle 'bout that. ~PClinuxOS~ ![]() ![]()

The effects he has are spilt in to three sections I think. To his left are the trusted boss pedals. Ie octave, delay, flanger turbo boost and vibrato and an old pedal I couldn't see. The set up to his right has wah, whammy, mm4, and pitch shifter . There was a pedal in front of these , don't know what it was, Two messa boogies.
