I have zero problem with the song...but for me, I cringe whenever a journalist has an interview with Prince right before an album is released, and that journalist ends up comparing the new stuff to any of the Prince classics. It's like they're trying too hard to write something complimentary about the song lol...makes me not trust the rest of their critique.

Besides, you'll never find an entertainment journalist have the sole interview with someone of Prince's stature, and then in the write-up say "By the way, the new album blows" lol...

I agree and feel the same about it, although to be fair the writer compares only the lyrics of "Fix Ur Life Up" to SOTT.

Lets not forget the song " Dont U Want Somebody 2 Love" should be on it, which is the track he performed at the end of New Girl.

It's not a 3EG track and will not be the album, although were there to be a solo Prince disc it could be on that

Some info on the Mojo interview about PlectrumElectrum. Please excuse me if it has already been posted.
.
Article discusses him now and through different parts of his career etc, whilst discussing new album which they were played in entirety but I don't think they reference every track. Briefly:-
.
WOW - Led Zepesque instrumental described as heaviest thing he's ever done.
.
WHITECAPS - elegant ballad with a transcendental quality
.
Then describes 'rest of album rattles by stopping off at sweet, girl-group style pop, pure bass driven funk, heart felt balladry and plenty of soulful, Hendrix-like guitar squealing. It's considered and cohesive, with a joyful spirit running through every song..feels gloriously live because that's exactly how 3RDEYEGIRL came together.
.
FIXURLIFEUP - anthem of empowerment with Sign 'O' The Times like lyrical undertow of apocalyptic morality.
.
TICTACTOE - gentle ballad with hazy layers of over lapping sounds Prince says is inspired by the Cocteau Twins.
.
FUNKNROLL - energised free-flowing groove that captures the spirit of Prince in 2014 - virtuosic but spontaneous, fun but deadly serious

.

As I said (like James Brown), Bring it on, Bring it on, Bring it on!

What I'm wondering is how many songs are on it? There should be between 15-20 because we've had to wait so long.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be the usual 12 song, total running time no more than 45 mins. As for length of songs, Pretzelbodylogic, Funknroll and Fixurlifeup are all between 3:00 and 3:45 more or less. Plectrum Electrum (considering the live version) would be around 4:30. Marz at Sheperd's Bush lasted for less than 3 minutes.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we get some 6/7 mins jams on it...And a total running time of at least 1 hour...

Never mind the quality....feel the width?

Is there anyone here who's willing to argue an album like Rave is better than Dirty Mind because it's twice the length? Less often is more!

R u serious or just being annoying?

Rave has about 4 good songs and a bunch of meteocre filler. Dirty Mind has basically no filler and all good to great. Imo, of course.

Let me get this straight - It's supposedly an "April" issue, but it's going to be out on the 25th this month?

How's that possible with anyone's conception of time?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cover_date

In the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, the standard practice is to display on magazine covers a date which is some weeks or months in the future from the actual publishing/release date. There are two reasons for this discrepancy: first, to allow magazines to continue appearing "current" to consumers even after they have been on sale for some time (since not all magazines will be sold immediately), and second, to inform newsstands when an unsold magazine can be removed from the stands and returned to thepublisher or be destroyed (in this case, the cover date is also the pull date).[1]

For me, there's a difference between "I like Rave better than Dirty Mind" and "Rave is a better album than Dirty Mind". I like Neil Finn better than Johnny Cash, but I wouldn't even begin to say he's better than Johnny Cash lol...hell, he might be. But my personal preference shouldn't be used as the measuring stick for that assessment.

I think Dirty Mind is better than Rave lyrically, it's produced better (imo, Rave is severely over-produced), it's a far more cohesive effort with pretty much all the songs rooted in a singular direction and mindset--in comparison, Rave is too scattershot and just seems a collection of unconnected songs, some good some not-so-good...and Dirty Mind contains a stone-cold classic Prince song--scratch that, a stone-cold classic rock and roll song--in When U Were Mine. Nothing on Rave even remotely comes close to that perfection. In the Village Voice Pazz & Jop end of the year critics poll, Dirty Mind was voted the #9 best album of the year. The year it was released, Rave didn't even make it into the top 200.

If he chose 2Y2D, your sentence today would have been:

"I don't get why Prince choose songs like 2Y2Df 4 the album instead of Pretzelbodylogic, it's beyond me."

People are never satisfied.

Oh, 1 more thing, we still don't know the tracklist, so 2Y2D could still be on the album.

Peace

I'll bite, why is Rave better than Dirty Mind?

I love the spare funk of Dirty Mind and, yes, it includes the incomparable classic, When U Were Mine. But I don't think the Prince of Dirty Mind was capable (yet) of the musical and emotional depth heard on tunes like Man O' War, Undisputed, Strange but True and I Love You but I Don't Trust You Anymore.

Someone described it as 'scattershot.' I suppose the musical direction is less focused than Dirty Mind but to me it's an impressive panoply of the all the styles and textures of which Prince was capable at that point. It covers more stylistic territory than possibly any other P release, which doesn't sound desperate to me, as to some others, but amazing.

Nor do I think the range of styles is just showing off. Who else is could create such disparate gems as The Sun, The Moon and Stars, Baby Knows, Rave and Pretty Man within the space of one album? Not Beck. wink

There are a few of good songs on Rave that I love. I love the title track, Pretty Man, Strange but True and I Love You but I don't Trust You Anymore. However, I think everything else is sub-standard. Feel free to like Rave more than Dirty Mind, but I'd never call it a better album.

I know where you're coming from but at the same time I've reached a point where I think I disagree. Given all art is subjective then surely if you "like something better" then by definition it is better (at least on a personal level). I think we all get too tied in to the notion of a critical concensus (which in the UK tends to be formed by angst-riden teenagers / twenty somethings - I'm pointing at you NME - and dominated by white boys with guitars) and feel the need to apologise whenever we stray from this.

So from that point of view, I think Neil Finn is better than Johnny Cash (and, say, Girls Aloud are better than Led Zep), although I'd concede Cash/Zep is/are probably more influential.

DM is better than Rave because it has something to say and say's it concisely. Yes, there's good material on Rave (that's in many respects technically superior to DM) but you need to work to find it and it lacks the spirit (hunger/ desire?) which dominates DM....and When You Were Mine is one of the finest song's Prince (or anybody) has ever written.

DM is probably Prince's most make or break work - without it there would be no Prince as we know him.
