I agree and feel the same about it, although to be fair the writer compares only the lyrics of "Fix Ur Life Up" to SOTT.

Lets not forget the song " Dont U Want Somebody 2 Love" should be on it, which is the track he performed at the end of New Girl. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

It's not a 3EG track and will not be the album, although were there to be a solo Prince disc it could be on that She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

Never mind the quality....feel the width? Is there anyone here who's willing to argue an album like Rave is better than Dirty Mind because it's twice the length? Less often is more!

Let me get this straight - It's supposedly an "April" issue, but it's going to be out on the 25th this month?

....pretty standard for magazine's in the UK. Always assumed it's a marketing tool so that anyone browsing in a newsagents will be comforted they're getting the most up to date issue.

...there's always one! I'll bite, why is Rave better than Dirty Mind?

I actually prefer Rave, but only cos TGR, Prettyman, Baby Knows, Hot Wit U and Undisputed all sound cracking through some huge speakers. Is a funky fun album

Interesting. I actually sneaked up to the sound desk before the gig and the guy had a sheet of paper with "WOW" as the first track....

I don't get why Prince choose songs like fixurlifeup and pretzelbodylogic 4 the album instead of 2y2d, it's beyond me. Welcome 2 The Dawn

If he chose 2Y2D, your sentence today would have been:
"I don't get why Prince choose songs like 2Y2Df 4 the album instead of Pretzelbodylogic, it's beyond me."
People are never satisfied.
Oh, 1 more thing, we still don't know the tracklist, so 2Y2D could still be on the album.
Peace

I love the spare funk of Dirty Mind and, yes, it includes the incomparable classic, When U Were Mine. But I don't think the Prince of Dirty Mind was capable (yet) of the musical and emotional depth heard on tunes like Man O' War, Undisputed, Strange but True and I Love You but I Don't Trust You Anymore.
Someone described it as 'scattershot.' I suppose the musical direction is less focused than Dirty Mind but to me it's an impressive panoply of the all the styles and textures of which Prince was capable at that point. It covers more stylistic territory than possibly any other P release, which doesn't sound desperate to me, as to some others, but amazing.
Nor do I think the range of styles is just showing off. Who else is could create such disparate gems as The Sun, The Moon and Stars, Baby Knows, Rave and Pretty Man within the space of one album? Not Beck.

There are a few of good songs on Rave that I love. I love the title track, Pretty Man, Strange but True and I Love You but I don't Trust You Anymore. However, I think everything else is sub-standard. Feel free to like Rave more than Dirty Mind, but I'd never call it a better album. Hundalasiliah!

I know where you're coming from but at the same time I've reached a point where I think I disagree. Given all art is subjective then surely if you "like something better" then by definition it is better (at least on a personal level). I think we all get too tied in to the notion of a critical concensus (which in the UK tends to be formed by angst-riden teenagers / twenty somethings - I'm pointing at you NME - and dominated by white boys with guitars) and feel the need to apologise whenever we stray from this.
So from that point of view, I think Neil Finn is better than Johnny Cash (and, say, Girls Aloud are better than Led Zep), although I'd concede Cash/Zep is/are probably more influential.
DM is better than Rave because it has something to say and say's it concisely. Yes, there's good material on Rave (that's in many respects technically superior to DM) but you need to work to find it and it lacks the spirit (hunger/ desire?) which dominates DM....and When You Were Mine is one of the finest song's Prince (or anybody) has ever written. DM is probably Prince's most make or break work - without it there would be no Prince as we know him.
