Lotusflow3r Confessions of a former diehard fan

So I pretty much checked out of my Prince obsession around 3121. Up to and including that record I, like I'm sure you all do, listened to his new albums and output on constant rotation as soon as they were released and loved it all.

But 3121 marked an end of that obsession for me and every album since has pretty much passed me by. I couldn't get to London for the 21 nights and even though I bought the book and CD I never listened to it or anything after

But these latest shows in London have really jump started the obsession. I read setlists, people saying things like 'people around me didn't know the words to Dreamer' and I thought neither would I I've never even heard of it, it must be a bootleg.

And so I finally listen to this fantastic album. I know I'm years late, but it's a cracking record. Can't believe I've gone years without 4ever, what a great pop song that is. Colonised mind, the aforementioned Dreamer, feel good feel better, these are brilliant songs.

I'm back in the fold for good now. I'm loving Screwdriver of the later material that's passed me by, but Lotus is a fine album

I'm now reading DMSR for the 5th time since I bought it back in 1998. I'm currently on the Parade chapter. Those song descriptions of the unreleased/uncirculating tunes are fascinating and frustrating at the same time! I want to hear them so bad!

I was living just down the street in Venice when I heard three new Prince songs on Jonesy's Jukebox. I think he played Crimson & Clover, Colonized Mind, and Wall of Berlin. I was blown away by his new sound at the time, it was a return to form and beyond to my ears. It was also exciting that I was in the same town as Prince as he was making moves to promote a new record. Unfortunately I left LA before he began doing shows around town, aauurgh. I didn't even mind the $77 www.lotusflow3r.com membership, it was good to support this new project (I did get the t-shirt lol). I am hopeful that the new record will compare favorably with Lotusflow3r, sounds promising so far. I wish he would release Plectrum Electrum already.

Lotusflow3r is really underrated in my opinion. My favourite none 80s album, (well, sometimes that trades places with The Gold Experience).

I had a similar experience, checking out of things with NPS then regaining interest over the past year. Can't remember why though. Anyway, the time away was good for me and allowed me to listen to his more recent work with a fresh ear.

I give it four. I feel like it gets better at the end, and for that, I am quite fond of it. But I feel like it takes a while to really get going. 4Ever is particularly weak as a song IMO. It's a nice performance, and reminds me of The Morning Papers, but I hate the lyrics.

However, once you get to Feel Better, Wall of Berlin, and $, it feels like a genuine classic Prince album. Not perfect, but quite good!

It also sold a half a million copies! Which made it Prince's second half a million sold album in 3 years....

For some balance, it was the album that told me he was gone and would never be coming back. The songwriting is completely shot, and his one attempt at a decent sound, Colonized Mind, is wrecked by having the lyrical mindset of a brainwashed twat. It really is breathtakingly dumb, which is the only thing that saves it from being breathtakingly offensive.

i have to agree with you there, 4Ever is the weakest track on this album and i didn't

like it at the start but now i've grown quite fond of it. i don't skip it anymore anyway lol

but perhaps 4.5 stars indeed, and not 5 stars biggrin

I also heard those songs b4 the album was released + 4ever and I loved them all and got really excited about the upcoming album release by Prince. Unfortunately I don't get the same feeling this time when I hear songs like Screwdriver, LoL, Fixurlifeup, Pretzelbodylogic etc.

I agree, the sound/production of the album was pretty good, but the songwriting was off on that one. A lot of songs were derivative of other songs, and the lyrics weren't great either. I thought the results were rather hollow...

Lotusflow3r is the best album since you dropped out, so it's kind of all downhill from here, although you've already heard MPLSound, so it's all up from there. Such is life.

Lotus is in my top 5 by him. I love it and wish he did more like it. I have big hopes for Plectrum but I really am starting to question if it will come out. Most of the fans on here dont like it too much and it seems like Prince is listening as it keeps changing. Screwdriver got dropped, breakfast dropped. Personally I like Screwdriver, Preztel and Fix... Pretzel probably will too after the response it got. I wish he would just release it with confidence and stop trying to please the fans on here which he never will. Drop the album and let the fans deal with it!!

When the Lotusflow3r trilogy was released I was in the middle of what can be described as one of the happiest period of my whole life and these 3 albums somewhat became the soundtrack of that. Besides loving them for what they are, they'll always be related to these wonderful months 2 me and I'll cherish them always if only for that. + 2 of the songs (Here and 4ever) pretty much describe word for word how I felt back then about both an ex I was starting to see again as a friend (Here) and the girl that was to become my future relationship, one of the strongest I've had (4ever). It was really weird and delicious to see MY stories put into words by someone else lol

I'll never 4get that 1st night when I listened to the albums back 2 back, the night they were made available on the website. It was just me, a bottle of red wine and the most delicious songs Prince had released in a long while. You know that whole period was like perfection coming 2 life, it doesn't happen so often in a man's life and when it does, you cherish the moment and, later, the memories.

God bless him for these 3 records, they really came at the right time 4 me and made my day back then!

not only did the 3disc set have some of the best music from Prince it also featured some of the very worst, for every Boom there is the utter shite of (There'll Never Be) Another Like Me disbelief
