6 min studio version from Platinum bootleg or hmmmm Glam Slam West version where he shouts "tear this muther fucker down come ooooonnnnn" the night Stevie Wonder plays with him. Gives me bass player chills everytime

Hmm. Time to put together a "Days of Wild" compilation like that "Kiss" boot. I love every version of this track. EVEN the "Days of Wild and Loose" rehearsal! (esp. the bit where he plays a bit of "America"). "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

The 1994 radio promo DAT followed by the Beautiful Exp. then the Crystal Ball version. I also like the 6:07 studio version but quality could be better. The version on 'the dawn'..track 7...is just like the crystal ball version...but better...has a couple extra KILLER solos..nice crechendo/drop-out type solos...but no 'free the slave' chants. I'm not certain if the track is live and edited with overdubs...or what....it has to be...I unno...he had excellent abilities in editing and overdubbing live trax and making the overdubs sound live. Those talents dropped of some time before the official Montre(a)ux release. The edited and overdubs were terrible on that. He he...the '(a)' is special for the orger who flips every time someone reasonably misspells Montux.(a)ux. we still love u.

Sometimes I gotta hear that elephant man action on the Montreux version...and the beautiful experience version has this undeniable vibe in it. And sometime..not being sarcastic...u gotta hear a rich mans audience chant 'free the slave'..I feel 'em..I really do. Most heralded versions are so, for good reason

i don't have the tracklist to the show you went to at hand, but at our show prince did a roaring version of "love thy will be done" which made up for larry a bit

i quite like all of the versions too. from the early 1994 live ones through to the ONA tour and then the 3121 versions etc. i really liked the rehearsal one too we got a few years back on doc funkenberry. the only one i don't care too much for is the latest one with the horns and the npg. but perhaps that's just because we've heard the song so many times now and it's not really adding anything new right now.

The version on The Dawn is not actually a version that was ever played, it is an edit of 2 versions performed seperately. One was an instrumental version which I think was released as part of an NPGMC Ahdio show. The other was possibly The Crystal Ball version, but I'm not sure. Will try and find the info.
It is my favourite version though. RIP

You are correct, sir. It's a "mash-up" of the crystal ball and ahdio show 1 versions. The whole dawn thing was put together by a former orger/mod. It was fun for one listen. anyhoo, the CB version is still #1 for me. it has the best NPG playing it live as intended over the original track. second is the instrumental, sick-ass guitar solo version from AS1.

Crystal Ball version as the sound is quite clean and bold, the Vault versions are more diverse and do have some kick ass guitar like that dawn version. I also really like a live version that is from the Australian tour last year, where he bought it out more, played more solos and used it as an encore.
But the problem with any post 1997 version, is the absence of the swearing that kind of made the original so appealing and because its gone, loses the appeal of the 1994 - 1995 feel of the originals. At my concert though I was shouting out all the motherfuckers along with several other fans. [Edited 2/23/14 14:34pm] Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Solos added from the live instrumental version?

The song itself is great! But, you're right, that solo brings me to tears every time i hear it! it's like he thought, "whoops, I forgot to put this in..."

I meant to say, the whole fan-made -dawn- thing was fun for one listen. The fan's heart was in the right place, but it's not an intended release from the artist, himself. I'm sure we all made our own edits of tracks, like combining "Housequake" with "7 Minutes Mo' Quake" at some point, but, it should only be used for private use and not spread on the web. just my two cheeky cents Prost! I told the guy many times, "you should write a book!" He's really the breathing Prince encyclopedia. I did like the attention-to-details approach to his compilation. Three 60 minute segments. ...and the use of era artwork was also wonderful. Every Prince fan should have the right to make their own version of 'The Dawn', though. That is, if you want to totally distort the legacy.

listening to the full length studio version on a flight the other day and it hit me that it has so many layers, that you can follow a different layer each time you listen. it's also very hypnotic and the long drawn out beats instrumental part that ends the song just doesn't get boring, even though it's just the same thing over and over. amazing.

I remember when The Beautiful Experience came out & I wore that vhs out 😄 That was my introduction to DOW & it's still my favourite, although there's a few vers mentioned here that I haven't heard but would like to. I like the idea of a compilation. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

I like the Crystal Ball version the best although the studio version i have is not pristine; the one i have must be an older circulating version. Didn't catch the better quality version. * * *

Which is the version on a Live Boot called "The Park Volume 1 Disc 1" which has several gold experience songs and waterfalls by TLC on it.
Its alright, but the sound is low, and theres a pouding drum beat through it. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
