Temptation- I do not love the song, but adore the ending part. Digital Garden - When I heard the snippet I was hoping all the Rainbow Children was like this. Experimental. It remember me some Peter Gabriel stuff. Joint 2 Joint - one of my favorite. I love the changing themes and the tip-tap "solo". And God Created Woman - disorganised. Heavy voice chorus. I do not love it. Dear Mr. Man - Insipid. Do U Lie - I adore this one. The Prince's voice and background ones are perfect. Dig U Better Dead - Bha. Positivity - masterwork. Nice use of voice, nice song, a lot of ideas. Experiemental, creativity. Satisfied - Insipid Thunder - disorganised

Temptation - Never liked it. Think of The Ladder as the ending of ATWIAD Digital Garden - Worst song on his last great album. terrible Joint 2 Joint - Pretty much epitonises everything wrong about that album. Its awful And God Created Woman - Starting to think you're just picking out rubbish now on purpose Dear Mr. Man - Its helped me get to sleep a few times Do U Lie - I finally find a Prince song worthy of the name. Inspired. Like something off the White Album, fits in beautifully with the album as a whole and as a song on its own right its a fantastic little song Dig U Better Dead - With TRC, my favourite non widely accclaimed album and although this isn't one of my favourites from Chaos its still a decent song Positivity - Best song of this list. As Lovesexy to me is the best album ever recorded I rarely listen to single songs on their own. It feels better listening to the full album and this completes the whole thing perfectly. I've dreamed in w's ever since. Perfection Satisfied - I loved the 3121 album at the time but rarely revisit it now. Average filler like this is why Thunder - First time I put the album in after buying it I hated it more than you could imagine. Just didn't sound like a song to be opening a Prince album. Mellowed over the years, and its one of them choruses I find myself singing randomly even though I rarely if ever actually play it
Strange list, but it got me thinking at least. Didn't look like much of a Prince fan with the first few!

Temptation -- okay for a closer. Kind of a mish-mashed mess, but I like it okay. Digital Garden -- I actually like this for what it is. Interesting. Joint 2 Joint -- pretty high on my list, certainly one of the best on Emancipation. Love the ending. And God Created Woman -- also quite like this. I have a tendency to switch back and forth between it and the Beatles' "In My Life" when it plays on the soundtrack in my head. Dear Mr. Man -- never thought much of it. Lyrically no better than much of his political/social commentary songs. And I've never been impressed by most of those--and this one doesn't do much musically for me either. Do U Lie -- love it. Always have, always will. Dig U Better Dead -- I don't think it fits on the album, but I like it quite a bit. Actually sounds better than many of the rock cuts do on the album, though they have generally been improved live. Positivity -- although I might say it drags if I were asked, I seem to bring it up in my head fairly often, so I must like it. Satisfied -- uninteresting to me. The fact that he so often streamed versions or otherwise made them available is a mystery to me. He has so much better work in a similar style. Thunder -- I like it. It sounds a bit, well, studio-bound (if you can understand that), but I still like it.

Flawed Jewels of the Purple Crown
Many of these suffer from being overlong, overproduced, too morbid or over intense, except Satisfied and Dear Mr Man -- the latter being politically underwhelming but still a damn near perfect groove.

Temptation. Great guitar solo. Play the ending to a non-fan, it's cringey. . Digital Garden. Struggling to recall. I'm not mad on TRC . Joint 2 Joint. Makes my 12 track version of Emancipation. It's very strong apart from the taxi ride at the end. I snip that. . And God created Woman. I'm not religious, but this is a nice song. I can appreciate the sentiment. Saw a yoga class working out to this on a foreign holiday once. Twas a bit odd. . Mr Man. The matthew 5:5 speech is jarring and doesn't fit the song. Plus the 'ozone layer' thing, it just irks me. That was a concern and blabbed about 20 years ago or more. It's like P only got wind of it in '04 or something. 'Climate change' is all the rage these days. . Do U Lie. Utter perfection on a perfect album. . Dig U Better Dead. Always seems to get a beating, don't know why. It's not groundbreaking or anything but i like it enough. . Positivity It's unique and fantastic. Prince has never made anything else that sounds like it. . Satisfied. Meh. Is this off 3121? the fact i have to ask says it all. Prince Ballad by numbers. . Thunder, Loved it live on the D&P tour, very bangy and a great opener. I used to love the studio cut, dug the gutar on it, never really liked the Jesus references or the horrible, tinny keyboard on it though. D&P is one of his albums that has plummeted in my estimation. Got worn out in 1991, I've not played it start to finish since then.
What's the idea behind this thread Byron? I'm curious.

Temptation is the only one I can't remember how to sing off the top of my head. I suppose I like the other 9 well enough more or less. What?

Sorry, I don't have the time to comment the songs, so I've just rated them. "And God Created The Woman" is one of the most beautiful songs written by Prince. "Do U Lie" is great too, some European elegance is always welcome. "Thunder" is the perfect beginning of my favourite Prince album, and I love it both musically and lyrically. "Joint 2 Joint" makes me wish Emancipation was far shorter than it is. "Temptation", together with "America", ruins what otherwise would be the best Prince album by far. [Edited 2/17/14 7:07am]

I'll bite then. What an amusingly odd thread topic Good job.
Temptation - I like it OK but the goofy God shit/narrative junk at the end ruins it. Prince does this a lot actually. Digital Garden - Booooring. Always hated this song. It just meanders. There's no song there. Joint 2 Joint - Fun tune. Nothing classic but I remember enjoying it when it came out at least. And God Created Woman - Beautiful song. Beautiful lyrics. Great vocals, harmonies, background sounds and range on display here. One of my favorites on that album. Dear Mr. Man - Nice groove and has an "organic' feel to it that evades a lot of Prince's studio work. Naive and cheesy lyrics though ("What about this big ol' hole in the ozone?"). i like it overall, especially thre live versions. Do U Lie - Clunker. Fucks up the flow of that album (which I've always had mixed opinions on anyway). I've never enjoyed this style of Prince songs. Dig U Better Dead - Get's a bad rap (no pun intended), a lot like "I Rock Therefore I Am". Conversely, I've always enjoyed this style of Prince tracks; the "mad scientist/one man band/over-dub by over-dub/layering approach with a heavy back beat. Positivity - most underrated song on the album (along with "Dance On") and a greast closer. Love the way it builds off the simpicity of the first two verses, the bridge and the lyrics. "Call People Magazine, Rolling Stone, Call your next o' kin cause your ass is gone.." Satisfied - Another by the book Prince ballad. At this point, I start to get them mixed up they sound so much alike (Call My Name, On the Couch, Scandolous...). They all run together for me. I know they drive the women insane though. Thunder - I like it, despite the Jesus stuff, especially that twangy sitar sounding guitar riff. Mike B.'s drums are always nice too and one of the best things about the Diamonds and Pearls album. I miss him and John Blackwell. That thick, heavy bottom end they provided is conspicuously missing from Prince's sound these days and I always thought it added a lot to his sound

Pretty nifty thread idea, Byron. Made me wonder what 10 I might pick if I were to do the same. We need a change of pace around here.

Temptation...never a fan...the ending is ridiculous
Digital Garden...cool little semi-song. I remember first hearing this on NPGMC before Rainbow Children was out, and was VERY excited to hear him back in form.
Joint 2 Joint...always loved this song
And God Created Woman...apart from 7 the best thing from Symbol.
Dear Mr. Man...ok tune but isnt' aging well.
Do U Lie...Love it...everything from Parade is brilliant.
Dig U Better Dead...ok, but sorta boring.
Positivity...I have mixed feelings about this one. I don't like the beginning, but the way it builds, I always listen to the end. For some reason it gets in my head and its super hard to get it out of there.
Satisfied...Forgettable
Thunder...HUGE fan of this one. One of the highlights of D&P for me.

Temptation- fairly pedestrian until the end when it completely shits the bed. Digital Garden- nice. except for the chit-chat Joint 2 Joint- love it And God Created Woman- love it Dear Mr. Man- meh. Do U Lie- kill it with fire Dig U Better Dead- s'adight Positivity- drones on a bit too long. Satisfied- love it Thunder- decent. used to love it, but I don't have much patience for this sort of overblown production any more.

I'm surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for Dear Mr. Man overall. Musically, it's great. It's a nice, thick, organic funk groove with a nice Maceo solo near the end. The verses aren't great, but the chorus is solid. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Temptation - 7/10, never stood out to me, seemed a little cheesy but fun Digital Garden - 7/10, decent for an interlude Joint 2 Joint - 9/10, funky & funny, would be a 10 if it didn't sound so plastic And God Created Woman - 10/10, great groove, great sound, kind of like a precursor to neo-soul Dear Mr. Man - 8/10, another great groove, good chorus, verses are so so Do U Lie - 9/10, doesn't stand out to me that much, but that's because te album overall is great Dig U Better Dead - 3/10, junk Positivity - 10/10, brilliant, great lyrics, great vocals, the plastic drum is a very minor annoyance Satisfied - 7/10, a pale copy of the brilliant On the Couch, basically harmless and ok Thunder - 6/10, annoying, plastic opening to an overall pretty good album "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"
