How Many Guitar Players Are Better Than Prince?

I haven't seen many... althought others disagree. I think he became way better than Jimi. I mean he's had more time to perfect his crat! Joe Satroni is all feel, no thrill. Eddie Van Halen is just speed and some feeling, Eric Clapton is all bluesy but no speed, Robert Johnson was great though.

I haven't seen players that speed, feel, touch, and sound like Prince. Do you think many can touch him on guitar? especially nowadays.

I totally agree with you Prince can play so many different styles so well for example the funk of Kiss and I Wonder U, the rock of Dreamer and I like it There, the blues of "The Ride or 5 Women and the Jazz of She Spoke to Me (that middle break is incredible in the Long Version)....Arguably he is one of the best

I think there are a LOT of better lead players, but I do love his rhythm playing.

So ? There are hundreds, if not thousands of people better than Jimi Hendrix

Jimi is and will always be HUGELY overrated for some reason totally beyond my comprehension.

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Prince is world class, but he is not a vituoso. People like Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and Guthrie Govan.... I mean, they can play anything. Literally. Any style, any genre... they're freakishly good.

why don't you play 'dreamer' and 'voodoo chile' back to back and witness how awful prince sounds compared to Jimi Hendrix .. prince has gotten better on guitar in the last couple years .. some of his solos arent boring and tame as they have been most of his live career .. prince is not one of the top guitarists of all times .. his strength was in his writing rythm and the people who helped him make his songs interesting .. like clair fisher .. he is technically precise .. had one of his best moments on 'while my guitar gently weeps" but that was a cover, live, and he doesn't play that well often .. his guitar playing, escpecially on record, is usually quite boring .. many are better and more interesting on guitar ..

I'll be attending "Experience Hendrix"* next month- that show includes some of the best guitar players the business has to offer- and quite a few are better than Prince IMO.

Does that mean that I think that Prince is not good? No. It just means that I feel that some people have stronger skills.
No big deal. He's respected, and great at what he does... and I love to hear him play.

* The fact that they are going to play Hendrix music has nothing to do with it. They are just amazing guitar players.

There are probably a ton of better players than Prince but whether you like his playing should be a preference.

He's my favourite guitarist. I just simply really like the way he plays. Can he play? For sure. He's awesome but I bet there a ton of much more proficient players out there.

Better at what? making pancakes?

Guitar playing isnt a sport discipline.

Best guitar player is the one you like the most.

4 some people the best is Edge from U2.For others its Yngwie.

All matter of personal taste.

I can say that Prince is incredably tight rhythm player and very gifted soloist but he sucks on this new Vox guitar.

p.s. its not true that Eric Claptin dont play fast check his cover of Jimis Stone Free

The reason so many players are so good is because they learned from what Jimi did.

"Who's Better" is a bit simple minded approach to instrument players in my opinion smile. Unless you're comparing amateurs to Prince, I think it's fair to say When it comes to Prince and his peers it just depends on your taste. Like Im not a fan of certain professional pianists just because I dont like their style, if you get what Im saying biggrin

cool

As much as I Love Prince and agree that he is a damn fine guitar player, I do not think that he is better than Jimi Hendrix. Yes he has had more time to perfect his craft but remember Jimi played his guiter upside down. Not an easy task!!!!! The only one that may come close and you don't hear much from anymore is Ernie Isley. That Boy can play!!!!! Also there is Slash. By no means am I saying that they are better than Prince but they are good guitar players in their own right.

If you think Jimi Hendrix is over rated then I have to say that you don't know music! I can't fathom how you can even think that! Like you said yourself and I quote "Beyond your comprehension"! RECKANIZE!!!!!

These things are genius, I've posted on their comments to make a Prince one. Can you imagine? I love it when other instruments creep in if the camera is showing them.

Prince's versatility puts him at the top. He can Rock Da Bang or most cuts on the Lotus Flower album......do Jazz Fusion like NEWS or the Rainbow Children such as the title track or Digital Garden.....Funk it up like Kiss or Sexy Dancer......get Progressive like "Alexa de Paris.......and pretty like Dinner with Deloris...Bluesy like the Ride....most of the other guitarist mentioned only do one genre or music....Prince has done several
