Of any popular artists, Prince's work could benefit the most from retrospectives, yet he frustratingly refuses to release them. He even said (I believe it was to the peach & black podcast) that he's already done the remastering of all albums through dirty mind, but nothing's been released. Why do I say his work especially, of all popular artists?: 1. He has so many songs that are difficult/impossible to get legally. There are the Internet only releases, out of print material, and never released on CD stuff. All of this could either be released as cd versions of the originally released or compiled in interesting ways. 2. Nobody has as many unreleased gems. Bob Dylan was really his only competitor in this area, and Dylan has released tons of material through the official "bootleg series." 3. The name change, promotion failures, and unorthodox releases (cover mounts available in few countries) resulted in much of his post-1993 material being heard by a lot fewer people than it would've had he released the exact same songs but went along with average or better promotional strategies. All that to say, yes, please release a "best of", either post WB or post-1993. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

he could, since he owns the rights of ANY song published after the Warners era, am I right?
but he's not that dumb: he knows that a 96-2010 compilation would be ignored by everybody except the hardcore fans
I mean, a cd with So Far So Good, Jam of the Year, The Work pt1, Cinnamon Girl, Fury, Chelsea Rodgers, Colonized Mind??? the casual mainstream fans would surely scratch their heads in front of those "popular modern hits" (irony)
and the everlasting "Warners war" won't make things easier for a definitive Best of 1978-2010

Some of you are taking the idea of a hit song a little literally. Hit collections are usually just popular or critical successes, and singles collections. Black Sweat was the last track I can think of that got to non-Prince devotees and got some airplay. He'd do well if he put out the Super Bowl show, and te Radiohead cover.
