If Prince asked me to name one song, he should play at Essence Festival, I would want to hear a song that he hasn't played in a while. Maybe an album track or one of his old hits. However, I know Prince is a music enclycopedia and has a healthy appreciation for soul music past and present. I would ask him to play "Give Me Your Love" by Curtis Mayfield. Prince's 12 member horn section could play the orchestra parts and Prince is perfect to vocally interpret Curtis' falsetto and lyrics.
The show would be nothing but Prince's own songs, but one cover song that would go well with a largely Black audience, would be all right. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |
