he'd probably do some medley with let's go crazy, kiss, and go into purple rain.. he probably won't do anything new, and he probably won't take time to sit at the piano, just do his part and go home..

i could be wrong.. i'm not but i could be...i'm not..but it's possible i am... i'm really not tho

Soapstone

I'd like to see reworkings of the old stuff. The stuff he is (would be) being recognised FOR. The WTF concept is good, live performance of songs people THINK they know. I think that he could only do this through delivering the classics with a 2003 Prince twist. Kinda like the Ballad of Dorothy Parker on Leno. It was like a second birth of an already great song, gave me a whole new appreciation for it.

For that reason and with a 2003 twist, I would go with.

Purple Rain - almost his signature song

Raspberry Beret - poptastic!

SOTT - more poignant today than ever

Followed by a concluding medley of My Name is Prince (again) and loads of new stuff, to leave everyone wondering WTF (yet again) happened to Prince, and where has he been hiding.

Prince has made himself an outsider to this kind of recognition. The difference between the other artists in the R&R hall of fame and Prince is that Prince seems aloof, inaccessable, moody, shy, and not particularily loveable compared to say Paul McCartney, of the Stones.

He just isn't loveable, and decries the music world which is so pollitical.

So forget him getting recogntition that he would have gotten if he wasn't so self-destructive to his own popularity.

My picks in this fantasy scenario, however:

Cloreen Baconskin
Right the Wrong
Batdance (Vicki Vale mix)

This is a tricky question, because off the top of my head, the songs I think he should do/would like to hear him do, I doubt he'd do them:

- I Wanna Be You Lover
- Let's Go Crazy
- something from the early 90s, maybe "7" (even though there are better songs from this era that he could do..)

Each of the above songs sort of represents each "era" of Prince's music:
the "early Prince" (mid-70s to '80)
"classic Prince" (early- to mid 80s)
then something from the late 80s to early 90s. I would LOVE to hear Sexy MF, but something just tells me that he probably won't do that 1..

There are a lot of his other songs I'd like to hear, but they wouldn't sound the same, with his current (& always changing) band lineup..

further, I can only imagine how many former bandmates WON'T show up because Prince not only burned but DESTROYED those bridges..
from what I've heard, it would now take a MIRACLE for Wendy & Lisa to be invited by Prince.. much less ANOTHER miracle for them to actually agree to come..

damn, the list of "former, disgruntled bandmates" is probably too long to count..

lest I come across as "blaming" only Prince for these bad endings with former bandmates.. I'm not trying to come across that way. I'm sure 2 or maybe 3 times, the bandmember in question did something to get kicked out..
but I'm much more certain
that Prince more than contributed his part
to the souring of a relationship with an ex-bandmember..

oh, the carnage!

But, I digress!

As it's been said elsewhere, it would be too obvious for Prince to do "Kiss" (a song that now gives me a HEADACHE, I've heard it too many times) or Purple Rain.

He might do- he could do When Doves Cry; this might be his most recognizable "signature song"..

Then again, it probably would be enough that Prince even shows up for this event.

Prince always has to do things...

(sigh)
