heres the problem .. mileys "we cant stop" is a pop hit because it is a decent song and deservest to be a pop hit .. "wrecking ball" is not as good but unfortunetly both are miles better than the crap prince is putting out .. beibers songs are hits because they are catchy and have hooks .. not because they are horrible songs and the charts mean nothing .. perhaps the delivery and personality is not so good but unfortunately again .. prince personality is even worse .. at least with beiber it feels normal for him to be a spoiled douche .. with prince it is just creepy that he is this spoiled pretentious preachy psycho religious new wave guy that preys on 18 year old girls .. somehow i can excuse beiber more than prince since beiber is still a kid

I disagree. The majority of the crap played on radio do well because they're repeated to death so that eventually you find yourself listening to the radio singing along to crap you first hated. I've very rarely in my life found a single Bieber or Cyrus song that I thought was genuinely good despite the 5-10 people it takes to write one of their "hits". Its merely radio repetition that get its stuck in your psyche. I thought TMBGITW sucked when I first heard it, as if it was one of Prince's worse songs, but radio play eventually made me semi-like it. Prince has recorded and released tons of songs far better than anything on the radio, people just don't recognize them for the works that they are because they never radio play. Plenty of people here underestimate the influence radio has over what is and isn't considered "good".

Change it one more time..

If only Prince could write something as sure-fire as this neutral...maybe with better promotion (!)

Despite what people think about the current shows being groundbreaking etc etc it will effect his record sales. He does no interviews or marketing so you cant expect him to sell many records

He just isnt current anymore

I find the performance of TMBGITW to be horrid but at the end of the day it is a solid hook of a song and I understand why it was a HIT .. Miley and Beiber are both so completely off my radar but upon hearing We Can't Stop I knew it was a strait up HIT .. I have also heard BABY BABY BABY OH by Beiber and it is strait doo wop from the 50's and would have been a hit back then as it was now. I have no need to hear anything Beiber puts out ever, but I can respect a solid song when I hear it. We Can't Stop is a GREAT song! I play it on acoustic all the time. It is a classic sentiment and well delivered and it just plain works. Prince has even his hardcore groupies baffled at what the hell he is talking about .. and not in some nerdy puzzle we all need to solve way .. just strait up stupid words that mean nothing thrown together trying to sound smart when its just dumb .. prince can write dumb songs that are good .. cream is a dumb song that is good .. horny toad is a dumb song .. prince can write sophisticated songs too .. like life can be so nice or money dont matter or if eye was ur gunit .. his new stuff is just a huge mess of nothing .. there is no amound of hyping that could turn it into a HIT .. its just plain bad .. sure some stuff gets hyped because its goofy .. a song like Peach sounds great because of the Kim Basinger sample .. that one little noise all the way through .. so it is no wonder a song like "what does the fox say" can get over on goofy noises .. but today prince could not pull off even a stupid song like that .. he doesnt put cool noises in his songs anymore .. or write cool melodies or any of it .. ya gotta have a smidgen of something that hooks peoples ears and prince just doesn't have it anymore

er

Have to agree with you there, Trevor. All the rave review Prince is getting are about the live performance, not the new songs. And nobody's going to see Prince because of Pretzl... And even tho' I like the song, me too I'm going: what's he talking about?

I think the problem with Prince is.. is he a pop star or a musician? the two don't necessarily go together, most accomplished musicians don't have hits, but they are respected and revered. Miles Davis didn't have hits, but he's a respected artist. Prince tries to be the artist and the pop star, it worked in the 80s/90s but i think now he needs to settle into the musician category and stop (half-heartedly) chasing the charts.

It's funny because i remember that song!

I was a small child kind of excited to hear Donald on a record at the time.

Oh the revealed truth is hard to watch. It wasn't Donald at all! neutral

damn.

He will not chart well until he gets a major label behind that spend the money to get the song on the radio. How many times have we gone over this.

You have to play the game if you want to get on the charts. Bruce Springsteen and Madonna are both on major labels and have that behind them. I think Prince could make a commercial single IF he wanted. But Prince seems to just be enjoying himself now.

Love God and I shall 4ever Love u
