(ignore Mr Angry, just clicked wrong button!!)

Been meaning to upload these for a while, following a bit more research: these are two ultra rare, official UK only promos from 1991, produced exclusively for BBC radio broadcast & their 'Gramophone Library', pressed at the Nimbus plant.

What makes them awesome is that they pre-date 'The Crown Jewels' UK promo and are therefore the first official promo compilation on CD. The tracklist is great - 35 tracks in total and I think I probably would have chosen the same ones at the time!

These seem to have been overlooked in most listings - due to high rarity and, I think, due to the dodgy artwork, but I can guarantee 100% that these are official promos. Take a look at other BBC Radioplay promos, with the TAIRCD reference, which are gradually starting to surface:

Well spotted thdance!! You got me intrigued and I have taken a close look and found a few interesting bits. These get even better... there are edits/mixes on these that are, from what I can see, unreleased any other pressing...

First thing to note: there are marginal variations on the track times printed on the back insert to what appears when you stick the CD in, only by 1 or 2 seconds and mainly due to tracks which fade at the end. I have updated Discogs with the actual timings.

So here's the interesting bits:

On TAIRCD 127 - 79-86

Track 1: I Wanna Be Your Lover (Unreleased Edit) - straight edit of the full 5:50 album version, it just fades at 3:46
Track 7: Purple Rain (Unreleased Edit) - straight edit of the full 8:41 album version, it just fades at 5:48
Track 8: When Doves Cry (Unreleased Edit) - straight edit of the full 5:54 album version, it just fades at 4:09

On TAIRCD 128 - 87-91:

Track 6: Alphabet St. (Unreleased Edit) runs at 4:21 - straight edit of the 5:40 album version, it just fades at 4:21.

Track 8: Batdance (Unreleased Remix Edit) runs at 4:08 - this is based on the album version but misses out the guitar section from 1:46-2:43 and stops at 'This town needs an enema', with the final 'stop' sample tacked on. When they compiled this, they were obviously constrained by the 76 minute CD capacity and Batdance was the easiest track to chop up. Still, I reckon this classes as an exclusive mix!

Track 9: Partyman - just misses out the 'Gentleman, let's broaden out minds' intro.
