the reason, why Prince does not like the internet that much... a small analysis ;-)

Do you like analysis here?? Well here's one of mine. wink

the reason is .....Prince does not like to "reveal" to the public, the media, the record companies, colleges, people in the business, etc....:

That his number of "hits" pressed by us (the fans), on for example YouTube, those "hits" are really low these days. (That's my guess?)....

And. My guess is that he is extremely vain, he is one of hell of a major superstar (the very rare kind to be soon extinct like a dinasaurous?) he is a true star: therefor he doesn't like to "reveal" just how few "hits" he actually gets on YT and on social media,

He prefer to make it look like he is as popular as ever, and, it's for him better to keep the low "numbers" a secret..?

Therefor he is using (hiding?) under the band "moniker" 3rdeyegirl etc..

And this could be one of the reasons why he is demanding YT videos taken down.....?

If it's a truth - his declining popularity, then it could be... he wanna keep this a secret to the general public.

Maybe there's a truth to Prince earlier statement "the internet is dead" after all.

I still wish Prince would soon have a huge success again on all the parameters. (but, I am however a little sceptic though, that it will ever happen once again).

Do you agree with this... or am I talking nonsense... question

I think you have it backwards. You say he doesn't like the Internet because his views/hits are low, but really it's the other way around - the hits are lower than they would be because he doesn't allow his stuff on the Internet.
As nursev said, I also know folks who'd enjoy looking/hearing his stuff online, but don't bother after not being able to find it readily. And he doesn't try to be in tabloids, endorse products, etc etc and other ways that other artists try to keep their face/name constantly in hot he media. I respect that.
And besides, I think his While My guitar Gently Weeps performance got tons of hits, so that shows that if people can watch it, many many will. Also that Coachella performance. If When Doves Cry video were easily available all the time, it'd be huge on YT too.

er

The real reason Prince doesn't like the net is because he cannot control it. He tried a few websites, but it was always one way traffic: He delivers, you consume. That the whole internet is interactive is something he never wanted to deal with. As to the reason to that, I'm no psychologist and even if I was, I wouldn't analyze someone I've never met in person.

Exactly nod The Internet gives people the chance to listen to,and to see, whatever they want, whenever they want,on their own terms.Prince can't seem to grasp that concept. He wants to be in complete control. It's funny though....in the 90s,he was going around, saying positive things about the Internet and how he could sell his music directly to the fans, without the "middleman".He soon found out that it's not quite that simple, lol.

You guys need new material lol...

Apparently everything Prince does or does not do is because he's no longer popular:

- Why didn't Prince release his album in 2013? Because he knows he's not popular anymore or else he'd release the album pretty much anytime.

- Why is Prince doing a cameo appearance on New Girl? Because he knows he's not popular anymore so he's trying to remain relevant by latching onto a popular show and pretending he's a fan.

- Why doesn't Prince try and put out a great album? Because he knows he's not popular anymore so he figures why even bother trying when nobody is gonna buy his albums anyway.

- Why did Prince team up with 3rdEyeGirl? Because he knows he's not popular anymore so he's trying to appear hip to a younger audience.

- Why doesn't Prince like the internet? Because he knows he's not popular anymore and doesn't want everyone to see how few views his music and videos get.

- Why doesn't Prince eat more oatmeal? Because he knows he's not popular anymore and doesn't want to sabotage what little relevance he still has by being seen eating such a bland meal.

- Why does Prince inhale before exhaling? Because he knows he's not popular anymore and wants to keep himself alive to desperately try and have another hit single.

I swear you guys must hold "How To Blame Prince's Lack Of Popularity For Everything" seminars in orgnotes or something lol...

What SuperSoulFighter said is most likely correct: Prince doesn't like the internet much because he can't control it, along with it makes it far easier for people to use his work and likeness without his permission. The fact is, Prince is at a point in his career where the number of youtbube video views and "likes" on facebook have no negative impact on his relevance whatsoever. His status as a rock icon has caused him to transcend such trivial and transitory barometers of artistic relevance...and he knows it. As such, the internet is little more than a nuisance to him at this point. Which is too bad, because he should be using it to a far greater benefit to his career.

speaking of those 90s interviews....I recall a funny comment that Prince made back then.He was gleeful that the big record companies were losing money and having alot of problems with illegal downloading."File-sharing is like rain",he said."You can't stop it".

lol and now here HE is,fighting with bootleggers and people who download his music illegally, lol

My guess is that it is about money and perception.

Many artists/bands/speakers/famous people have no problem with someone filming a spinng 45rpm or a photo with lyrics and posting it to YouTube (or wherever).

The issue is, if Prince allowed someone to post 1999 to Youtube, and that person turned on AdSense, that person would be making a half-a-penny for every view.

After 100,000 views, Google is cutting that bastard a check for $50,000!

For what? Stealing music from Prince. It is plagerism, copyright infringement, and complete anf utter theivery. There was no "additional" art added to the piece, nor was it "improved" or "expounded" upon.

So that might be reason one and two- Money and copyright infringement

Another reason is perception. I've been to some shows where the band doesn't care if you film them with your cell phone. That is really cool of them. But you know what? Most cell phone videos of live music look and sound like shit. Being the perfectionist that Prince strives to be, and being that way because, in his mind, he wants to deliver nothing but the best he can to his audience, allowing so-called bootlegs, or underground recordings would compromise his convictions and his commitment to his audience.

So that might be reasons number three and four- Striving for the best and commitments to audience

Prince has spent a life time trying to keep a bad-ass, yet squeaky clean image. I mean, come on, he had to fake his mug-shot in Jackson, MS. He is not the average run-or-the-mill Bieber, Kid Rock, or Tommy Lee. He's Prince.

I would imagine he takes his art, his music, and his creations very seriously and personally. To have someone else just toss his shit up on line and dance a sock-monkey to it would be taken in great offense, and as an insult.

I'm not saying he doesn't have a heart or a sense of humor. I am saying he doesn't take kindly to people stealing his work, or presenting it in a less-than-intended way.

Take this ORG for instance. IF you read the rules here, you can talk about Prince, you can joke about Prince, but you damn well better not post his songs, images, lyrics, bootlegs etc.

It's not easy being famous, and it is difficult being famous and getting paid for the work you've done when the internet makes it very easy for others to steal it away from you.

That's my 3rdeye cents.
