Do You Think Prince is Ashamed of his musical past

Lets have a serious and civil lol discussion about it. I mean we know religion has alot to do with him trying to erase his work, but do you think hes ashamed of the cursing, sexual imagery, etc. He really shouldnt be-he was the best at it and he was loaded with talent on top of that. So lets discuss it org lol and please try not to get quoted falloff

If he was he wouldn't sing Bambi or play instr. snippets of Darling Nikki the sampler set, so no.

He can't erase his work. It's out there.

*

Ashamed? I doubt it. However, he may be one day. Time will tell.

*

Being the best at something or loaded with talent doesn't excuse one from accountability before God.

*

At the end of the day, it's Prince who needs to do his own soul searching (hopefully with God's assistance).

He should be more ashamed of his musical present.

I don't think it's about being ashamed - which I don't think he is, and has no reason to be. I think it's more about trying to find a place where the albatross of past successes that all longtime artists carry around isn't a hindrance to what he wants to do now.

I think it best that Prince take his past to the Lord & ask Him about it. It isn't enough for any of us to just blow off our past and say "I have no reason to be ashamed." There's no freedom in that. Shoving crap under a rug and pretending all is well doesn't fly with God. Let's seek God's opinion and not settle for our own delusions.

*

The best thing one can do is soul search with God, see what needs to be acknowleged as sin, sincerely repent of (past & present sin) and get cleansed of the filth. It's only when we accept responsibility & sincerely repent that God can cleanse us.

*

I think Prince should ask himself, if I were in God's throne room, would I sing most of my back catalogue? Or not? If the answer to that is NO, then repentance is needed.

*

Also, does it matter how we influence others with our words, music, lives, etc.? Absolutely. Taking responsibility for the bad seeds we've sown in other's lives is important.

*

Like I said previously, Prince is the only one who can do the soul searching & reflect. Hopefully, he'll do that before God rather than shove everything under a rug. God sees under the rug. The higher the mound under the rug, the more bound we are.

The speech he made at that awards show where Patti LaBella royally f^$ck&ed up Purple Rain and Alician Keys crawled around pregnant on the piano, that speech made me think he had some 'embarrassments'

I don't think so. He just grew up and out of his youth, as most people when they grow older and wiser, and don't do all the things they used to do or portray the same behavior, attitudes or beliefs, as they mature mentally and spiritually with time. So eventually they grow up in the process.

I always thought maybe Prince was brought into WB by doing something sexual for WB. Maybe by getting fucked in the ass or something, which he mightve thought was alright to get what he wanted. Since stories are told of the like that people have to do things to get around with big labels. And he did have full production control without having a name, so who knows.

WB has a history with sibliminal messages.

So maybe its shame for supporting an agenda or doing something to get by. Only real thing I could think of.

YIL: Do you think "Shockadelica" is your best song? If not, why not?

TAFKAPrince: "Shockadelica" is about a witch. "The Holy River" is about redemption. I am no judge.

Ashamed? Absolutely not!!

If he is, he's completely lost his mind. His musical past is what made him who he is today. He would be nowhere without it because the music he makes today doesn't have any edge, grit or originality to it. It's certainly not bad music, but it doesn't compare to his past music.

Prince does seem to be at wars a lot though, maybe shame is the word. But there is definately a conflict

.

I mean why can't fans / new fans etc watch his videos? Or is there a place I don't know of that feature or show Prince videos?

no .. i think it has more to do with current jealousy by prince at the lack of recognition for everything that came since .. instead of taking cues from his past, he chooses to continue to shove nuprince down our throats and insist that it is just as good .. if it means obliterating his past catalog to "prove" he is just as good today .. he would do it .. except if he really did nobody would go to his concerts anymore .. and he needs the money for all those hookers he has laying around his band equipment all the time .. there is nothing MORAL about the present day prince that is any different than his past .. in fact .. his past is far more innocent and less creepy leachery than his current persona .. which is very creepy ... like a priest in a catholic church creepy .. the hipocracy and public image cover up is too apparent with prince .. no .. i believe the distancing of his past is more ego related than anything to do with morals ..

INTERVIEW * MAY 1997

THE ARTIST
By Spike Lee

SL: So, when you look back, do you see periods in your life when you did not like your Prince persona?

TA: Toward the end I was a little ashamed of what Prince had become. I really felt like a product, and then I started turning in work that reflected that. I had no problem with people saying I was repeating myself. I knew where I was headed and I just needed direction. I looked up and L. Londell McMillan was there.

I think if Prince went back to performing the way he did, stage-wise, like in his early days, swearing, doing sexually-suggestive dance moves, and sexually-explicit lyrics like in the past, you'd have fans screaming that a 55 -ear old man is trying to relive his youth, and looks silly doing it, and fans saying he needs to make new music, growup and change persona, accept his age, and not live in his past Prince 'persona'. I mean didn't one time Marvin Gaye kind of stripped down on stage at a later age in his underwear on stage, trying to bring his sexy image back that he was known for, but failed at it with his fans?

I guess it all depends

.

Did or would MJ fans dislike him grabbing his crotch at 50something?

Madonna fans still prefer wild Madonna to introverted Madonna

Heavy Metal Band and Rock bands who are now in their 40s 50s 60s still get to be as wild as ever and their fans love it.

.

Of course stripping down to underwear is one thing. But overall what Prince songs are so sexualy suggestive that people would have a problem with a man who doesn't seem to age much, singing. If Prince LOOKED 55 or older, if he looked like an old man, which 55 isn't old, and a person shouldn't look 'old' at 55. Head is the only most blatant sexual song just from the title. The story is cool though. I don't know any other songs from his 80s that's over the top. I don't care for Pussy Control (more from the title I guess) most of his songs even on Dirty Mind could easily be sung by Prince and they aren't something a 55 yr old man can sing.

.

If he can sing Cream (get on top) he can sing Do it All Night (then Breakfast Can Wait) same message

.

A few years ago I saw Glady's Knight and 1 of the Pips was with her, they had something set up where he took over the show and Glady's assisted on backing vocals. This guys in his 70s took the mic and did some moves and gestures like classic 1950/60 rock in roll did a semi split, hump and grinded (it didn't come off comical or obnoxious) and the women in the audience (all colors) WENT WILD!!! the guys we were cheering him on, the band and singers rolled with him and Glady's had a huge smile on her face.

.

So I guess it all depends.

By all means, I think Prince should go back to humping & grinding. I mean, if Gladys & 1 pip can do it and the CROWD GOES WILD, hey, go for it! It's all about the crowd going wild. That's what's really important in life. falloff

No, I don't want him to start bumping and grinding again, I just wish he was true to his past. He has to stop changing the lyrics to his songs (it's so silly and almost hypocritical) and he needs to write some edgy songs again.

prince never used to swear much till the wb conflict .. and all those songs sucked anyway .. prince still aludes to dirty nasty sex stuff .. he is just not as good at it as he used to be .. he can certainly perform most of his raunchy stuff without swearing .. saying stupid shit like "what the duck" is just dumb .. why tease darling nikki and get the crowd to sing "grind" if this is about his sexuality .. its not .. its about his ego .. guaranteed

Madonna bought herself a LOT of credibility with Ray Of Light, when she became the "mature" Madonna.

And she lost a LOT of credibility when she became silly sexy Madonna starting with Hard Candy.

I'm not making this up, I remember critics and reviews from 98 and 08. I think the reason why the last album didn't do as well as its predecessors is because Madonna isn't really credible anymore playing sex symbol at 55, no matter how good she still looks. That and the lack of originality of an album that sounds like any dance diva of the moment when she should be ahead of every one.

Prince stil plays sexy songs and he's still good at it, but as one fan once pointed out he would sound silly singing Head or Darling Nikki at 55.

I don't think he's negates anything he's done. He gave up on cursing for religious reasons, OK, and he gave up the most outrageous lyrics because of both religion and age, but hell he's still singing stuff like Kiss or Bambi or Hot Thing, and the Darling Nikki intro in the sampler set is a funny way of reminding us that though he won't sing it again, he still digs the song.

I agree with the Ray of Light vs Hard Candy

.

But Ray of Light was also a return to the scene after the movie and having a baby

She was really good at putting the growth introspective spiritual expression out there. But she actually has done that throught her career. She was still provocative and sexy though.

.

But American life even more 'introspective and mature' was not recieved well.

.

Madonna never changed her lyrics, and she never stopped being seductive naughty and such

.

Confession was a mature move (I think she should continue to explore that vs Hard Candy)

She was Extremely SEXY during Confessions. which proceeded Hard Candy. It was just the way each was presented. Hard Candy took her from the 'disco' expression, and Hard Candy was an attempt at connecting with younger and being Popularity.

.

55 yr old get head lol And Darling Nikki, is much different, it's tell a story like someone looking back whether a week a month a year or 10. I knew a girl named Nikki I guess U could say she was a sex ...

.

I don't think MJackson would be scrutinized for singing Dirty Diana or Billy Jean which are both tell a similar style of story.

.

I never cared for the cursing, which really was big in the 1990s with Prince

Parade was religion-less and not sexual(outside of New Position & I Wonder U) done very well

.

Seriously though if you won't play songs because of religious issues or whatever then don't mess with them at all. Nasty Girls Darling Nikki or Erotic City just leave it.

Does he still play Little Red Corvette? it's the same kind of story as Head or Darling Nikki
