Fan base with the biggest differences and contrasts

The Prince fan base is clearly not a homogenous group of people. I have been a member of a online fan communities for different artists, and never have I experienced a fan base with more differences. We have those who think Prince can't do no wrong, and we have those who always have to be politically correct about how Prince actually is not THAT good at playing his instruments and writing songs. That he is just a decent showman that wanks his guitar and released a couple pretty good albums in the mid 80s. We also have people in between, and all around the place. What would you categorize yourself as?

What is your most favourite genres?

What is to you Prince best period?

What artistic qualities by Prince is his most important?

What other main interests do you have?

Do you play instruments?

How do you view yourself as a Prince fan? Do you manage to distance yourself from the world star, and have an objective view on his music?

I love snow days... I get a chance to read and answer threads I'd normally skip for time reasons... typing

  • I'm a big Hendrix fan, so I love the guitar-heavy songs. But I also love the funkier stuff. It really just depends on whether it sounds good to my ear, regardless of genre.
  • I really liked the early NPG. I know a lot of people are nostalgic for the Revolution, but I am not crazy about that era. I don't hate it, by any means- it's just not necessarily the best to me.
  • I'm not sure what you mean by interests, but I do play an instrument. I play clarinet. Not funky, but I can read music...
  • I think that I'm a realistic Prince fan. I was a casual fan in the 80s, then became a complete fanatic in the 90s and early 2000s. But life goes on, I've changed, Prince changed, and my tastes matured:
    • I don't care for every song, and have no problem discussing it. I also don't care for 3EG. I won't accept that either of these things does not make me a "real fan".
They are my preferences... Some songs are not that good to me, and hopefully his next band will tickle my ear. wink
    • I used to horde my money in case Prince came around. I used to try to get to see him "by any means necessary." Now I try to see whomever I feel will put on a good show. If I miss Prince, there will be another time.
    • I've had incredible experiences over the years that have helped me to separate the music from the man. Gossip about his life and faith does not matter to me. It's all about the music.

I hope those were the kinds of answers you were looking for. They're honest. biggrin
