What really annoys me! I tell you what really annoys me...
When people go, 'Prince? is he still alive?' Or the worst thing... they say they are a big fan and i say name a track and they say, 'purple rain or kiss' and i say name another, there is a hesitation. And they cant or they do but its another released song. i then say, do you like, loveleft loveright and they look puzzled....
Its the same with Michael Jackson - they go, 'i prefere his old stuff' Its like he stopped making music in 1991. I once played, who is it, then tabloid junkie, then blood on the dancefloor. they just said looked blank..... again not a fan.
same with bowie where they go, 'i love space oddity' or 'star man' i then play, 'a small plot of land' and they look at you like you are an alien.
Same with dylan, bjork, beatles, beegees the whole lot. Who else gets annoyed by that!

I won't say it annoys me, but I find it funny when we start talking and the conversation just kind of fizzles. Esp. in line for a show.

That's mostly his fault. He's not necessarily the most accessible artist out there. I like a lot of his recent output. Some more than the old stuff but people can't listen to what they can't find.

Most people are unfamiliar with anything other than the biggest hits of artists. That's just life. We're all guilty of it for some artists. I couldn't tell you the names of any Garth Brooks songs, for example, and that dude sold more records in the 90's than anyone. I'm sure his fans would find it annoying if I told them that  Prince has more songs that your average person in the street would know than the vast majority of artists do. Most people know Purple Rain, Kiss, When Doves Cry, TMBGITW, Raspberry Beret, Manic Monday, Nothing Compares 2U and 1999. That's 8 songs! I reckon that's more songs than your average person on the street knows than with Bruce Springsteen or even Madonna. I reckon your average person knows maybe 5 or 6 Madonna hits and 3 or 4 of Bruce. Your average person probably knows a few more MJ songs and a few more Beatles songs, maybe about 10 for each artist. |

EVERYTIME I meet a Prince fan in person and start to talk about Prince, it takes less than a minute to realize that although they like Prince, they have no idea... They don't know the albums from the last 20 years. They don't know the bootlegs. They don't come to the org. They don't know follow his online releases. They don't know the associated artists (except the ones from the Purple Rain era). They like Prince, but their fandom is never anywhere near the obsessiveness of myself or the rest of us who regularly visit the org. Once upon a time, I found out a co-worker was into Prince. We started talking about our collections and he was telling me that nobody had a bigger collection than he did. I bet him that my collection was bigger. He asked what did I want to bet. I said our collections, the big collection takes the smaller collection. He backed off. Good for him that he did, too. He didn't even have all the released stuff and only had a couple boots... Still, he was a real fan, and even a little obsessive, or so he thought, tell he met me...

Ha! I've experience the same thing. People look at me kinda crazy when they see the amount of Prince I have, from all the released albums, bootlegs(audio and video), and print. I admit it too that I'm an obsessive Prince fan. __________________________________________________

Most people don't know about the org; thank goodness. They would be shocked of this fan website

Its not even about being an obsessed fan. I love the Beatles so have bought and downloaded all their music. yes some of it is good some of it isnt but that is art. Its the same with Beegees, Bowie, Dylan, Prince, MJ the whole. Its all hit (and i mean massive hit) and miss. But it annoys me when people buy an album and only listen to the singles. An album is a journey a story and feeling and mood. Its not just the singles.
This sounds odd but i was in a car coming back from a trip with some friends and the girl who was driving put on a spice girls CD and a song of their called 'Do It' came on, i was singing all the words to the song. (Give me a break they were out when i was 11ish, so you never forget). And my mate goes, 'this song is crap ive never heard it.' I said, 'its on the album if you actually listened you would find their is better songs then the singles you know' and my boyfriend said, 'dont get him started'

I recently met a guy who started bragging about how big of a Prince fan he was, and bragged that he'd seen him 8 times. My sister said, "Uh oh." I told him I'd seen him 34 times, which I KNOW isn't even close to some of my friends, or some of you guys. He was like, His friend walked up, so he told him, "This woman is a bigger fan than I am". His friend said that it was impossible...
I shared some of my experiences with them, and they
They were cool, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to hang out with them. Sharing with other fans is fun! [Edited 1/22/14 9:00am] "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

But when you're talking about actually seeing him live, it's harder to judge. Opportunity and economics can have a massive effect on this. A casual fan who lives in MN might have seen him live 20 times while an obsessive fan that lives in the boondocks and can't afford to travel for concerts may have seen him only a few or even zero times. So, I wouldn't judge based on that. I've only seen him 8 times, but, considering he's only played in my town twice ever, that's not too bad, no? Don't hate your neighbors. Just like someone who can't afford to spend a fortune on CDs and mp3 downloads can't be judged against someone who paid for everything that was offered back in the day.
I was just sharing a story that relates to that. Number of shows, number of CDs, how far you'd go for a show... it's all subjective. EVERY person who is really into an artist thinks that he or she is the biggest fan. It's a matter of what's in a person's heart.

With Bee Gees its the old stuff that people don't know. But with the Beatles? I don't think there is anything obscure except for an odd b-side like "You know my name..." My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I wasn't speaking highly of the org. I am a very very big Prince fan/follower, and this is not what I call an ideal Prince fan site; that's what annoys me.

Without Googling, name me two Teddy Pendergrass songs. You can't? Well that is the same for ppl who are not into Prince. Different strokes fo differnt folks
