Potential "The Rainbow Children" 33 1/3 book I've been reading 33 1/3 books for a long time (Electric Lady, Illmatic, Songs In The Key of Life, Exile On Mainstreet) and the one Michaelangelo Matos wrote about Sign O' The Times was unfulfilling to me. So much of the book was facts that was originally researched by other authors.
"The Rainbow Children" would be a great book for music lovers. There are so many angles that can covered in this book: the lyrical content of the songs (race, religion, gender roles), the album was recorded during the twlight of the Neo-Soul music movement, the musicians on the album from Najee, Larry Graham, John Blackwell to how the project revitalized Prince's music. Jettisoned drum machines and the plastic production style of his late nineties albums.
If there are any serious writers, you can submit a book proposal about "The Rainbow Children or any album not covered in the series. Here's the link http://333sound.com/how-to-submit/ 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Surely they aren't going to waste their resources on publishing a book about an album hardly anyone has heard of.

That's the whole purpose for writing a book like that though
The 33 1/3 book not only tackles popular albums, it also shines a light on underground and undervalued releases...
Just saying...

I wish someone did it, but it's really unlikely, isn't it? Would the publishers be interested in that album? I know this series studies not only very popular albums, but also others more unknown, but The Rainbow Children would be crossing the line for a publishing project who wants to have a minimum commercial success. It's an album only known by hardcore Prince fans. The publishers of this series already rejected a proposal about Dirty Mind, so, would they care about The Rainbow Children? I don't think so. ----- I wish I were wrong, though, because I consider the album a masterpiece, it compares even favourably to much of his 80s work. And also, as the OP says, because the book on Sign O' The Times was quite weak.
