The repeating Prince

Honestly,

... the two live video teasers, Im not all that impressed.

Prince became a predictable Las Vegas act for the rich and uninspired fans, and famous. smile Poor poor lonely computer. Do you really know what real love is ?

I might be wrong. But his set list is boring. OK, Some new verslons can be interesting as usual. The guy is a great live act to all apparently. But maybe there lies the problem. OK, I admit, The man knows damn well how to get his studio work so much livelier on stage. But hell, he started of last year on a new level with the 3rdEye girls and just put them like a vase on a cupboard in his yeah sayers band (still) called The NPG. I hate that wrong nineties name.
It remains Very uninspiring to me. No I'm not asking for The Revolution. I just want Prince ! A Prince with real surprises.

The NPG sound is perfect, they dont play false notes. THey just do what they're paid for, they have no input, I don't believe that. There's really no room for improvisation. Ok, like always, disposable new band members who propose new old school music to Prince to pick and play.

But. A Good thing changed. Prince laughs again. Thats so great.
I so missed his smile over the past years.

I can see that he's still having fun in controling everyone and everything. It's like an autistic freak who cannot than just keep on controlling it all. being 55!
I do hope he is sincerly happy. Cause he keeps on changing his points of view so often. It's like he's stuck in Old Schoolness...
And, the Promises and no deliver. Ok. No albums anymore. I don't care.
New music ? OK, I can live with that. (I'll make my own compilation albums.)

3rdEyeGirl & Janelle and probably new (uninspiring) protégés will follow. (Don't get me wrong I love both.)

I really don't wish Prince anything in 2014.
Oh, I wish him a good health though and real love. But that's it. But, why can't he just let go of so much freaky control and just grow up being more open to other, newer, inspiring contemporary musical wizards ?
On the other hand I don't mind him making a good old Prince record again too. But that won't happen again. Prince became The Rolling Stones AND Celine Dion...

(Why does he remain so constipated as a person ? )

"He could breath a lot easier if his wasn't so utterly polluted by his own presence"

If he gets here to Europe, I do hope for one that the ticket prices will be acceptable. I don't if I will go. Probably not. Seen him so many times in my life.
And nothing more has changed 'live' since the early nude tour or something like that....
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I liked those two clips! For the first time since he started this account I thought, I wish I was there! I like it that he gives his band a chance to share the spotlight. I'm getting so tired of these complaints about the setlist. Do you really expect him to do a totally different setlist on each and every concert just for the sake of people who don't go to the shows anyway? Actually, he did that at the North Sea Jazz in 2011 but even Prince has not written and rehearsed enough songs to do that on an entire tour. And the band just doing what they're paid to do? Once again, what do you expect? The fact that they play well is now being used against them.
I wish Prince keeps doing what he's good at in 2014. And then I'll see if I like it or not.
Peace! Be wild!

Those clips are depressing. Does he ever sing anymore? It's like every single song is now a showcase for the background singers. Ugh.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I can't stand the "NPG" live shows anymore. The 3rdeyegirl show was pretty cool. Not amazing like he used to be but still fun. The NPG shows are an aural assault and don't sound very good to my ears. They're schmaltzy, dopey and vegasy. I know he's not as young as he used to be but he doesn't have to be like this. In 2009 he was doing exciting concerts pretty often. I don't know what happened.

Also, the Something in the Water solo just went nowhere for me. The last 30 seconds or so was so boring. But maybe I'm in the minority.

I guess. You may not remember but I was a big supporter of the 3rdeyegirl project (I liked "Live Out Loud," a song which 90% of the org can't seem to stand lol) and even messaged you because you had a live version of The Breakdown, a song I enjoyed a lot and still do. I'm not just some hater. I've enjoyed some things still, am just not a fan of his current live show and am sick of waiting to hear new material. So I think you're wrong when you tell me I have to "move on."

The only thing on repeat that's come out of this year was "Groovy Potential". The rest sounds very uninspired.

Having said that I learned a long time ago to not give up on ol' boy. He can & will always surprise, it's just a matter of will I be there at the turn.

As I stated in my post, I am "listening too" the 2 live clips that Prince put up on his YouTube channel, which he must think are some of the highlights of the shows. The same 2 clips that the OP mentioned in the first sentence of this thread. So I'm not sure which thread you have been reading, honestly. I wasn't talking about the whole concert - I wasn't there, and have zero interest in listening to an audience recorded bootleg (even soundboards are of only mild interest to me post-2009).

And before you say "How can you criticize the concert if you weren't there?", I'm criticizing the clips from the concert that he made available officially. Apparently he thinks people will be blown away by his background singers doing all the work and with him coming in occasionally to throw in a "Party

'til the sun come up!" or a "Go 'head Shelby!" or some such nonsense.

^ for whatever reason, prince seems to attract fans with OCD who are determined that since prince hasn't been catering to 'their' artistic tastes lately he deserves to go down hard. it's a sorry state of affairs that such folks won't MOVE ON ALREADY but the fact is they hang around posting and posting...

don't get me wrong, i support those who air their opinions when they honestly do not enjoy the book/album/movie they've exeprienced. however folks should be content to say what they want then move on. just.... move on

Based on everything I've read of his shows, even if he came to my city depending on the ticket prices I think it unlikely that I would rush out and try and go to the show. I've never liked the long jam sessions, the feauturing of whatever side-project he's infatuated with at the time, etc. It's just not my kind of show. If others enjoy it, great. I'll just listen to the albums.
