For me Prince 'killed' his career after his so called 'bad xtc trip' in 87/88.. He gave up The Black Album and chose a different path. For me The Black Album should have been released as a double album with Lovesexy. Both albums I truly adore. The best of his 'raunchy' funk/r&b and the 'gospel' of Lovesexy, bounded by a booklet with the story on Spooky Electric. After the failure of Lovesexy (also because of the album cover) and despite his great tour, he chose to work on Batman. Commercially succesful and I very much liked the house/dance mixes of Batman. Prince was still at the forefront as a beatmaker and progressive artist. When I listened to the Femi Jaya remix of Partyman, I expected a 'dance' like Nude tour, but he went "back to real/oldschool".... Out went the computers and electronics and in came a full 'live' sound. Off course, it was great (as Prince live most always is), but after he lost himself in Graffiti Bridge (which did lack good 'beat making' and drum sounds by the way...), with The New Power Generation he became more of a 'standard' pop man, with funk/rap/soul/ballad/rock and even a reggae track.. Off course, there are still great moments from then on (especially on his 'jazz' side), but the prolific Prince was gone. Maybe this is also explained by his 'isolation' in Paisley Park and the lack of great engineers like Peggy McCreary. His 'sound' just went 'standard' and to polished. However, name me 1 other artist who was on the forefront for almost 10 years (from Dirty Mind unto Lovesexy).....???? But what if Prince would have had a good xtc trip and he would have stayed in the "electronic" world.....?? Prince meets Daft Punk...???

Because I love house music and Prince, for me this is a very interesting topic... Peace and B wild!

Warners would have NEVER let Prince release another double album so soon after SOTT.
