I agree. He ruins what would otherwise be a beautiful piano ballad. It's got a lovely melody and he screws it up with all those shrieks. Agreed

??...What screams are in P. Control?

Who screamed? Was it U?
I would think "God"--and I think the vocal version without the screams wouldn't be much at all. They elevate the lyrics, at least for me. The intensity of the screams help complicate things, keeping it from being a kindergarten Sunday School rhyme--the screams say there's something deep and distrubingly real going on emotionally in Prince, if God also made that (the complicated being that's somehow moved by what he's feeling to make those noises).
It's a pretty tune, yes--but if you want the tune, you've got the instrumental. I might like just a simple solo piano instrumental a few times through as another track (if Prince wants to record one, I'd probably buy it). But the version with lyrics needs those screams.
I'm not sure--does what he does in "The Beautiful Ones" count as screaming? It's still words, and maybe still counts as singing, but it's on edge and powerful.

God needs those screams. Totally agree. It's an amazing track and both the writing and performance are key. The Beautiful Ones definitely counts as screaming, imo, especially the last "YYEEEEESS I DO!" The whole section from "Do you want him ..." gives me the chills, in a good way. Definitely Endorphinmachine! God (speaking on God, God is another one), every time I listen to that song, I wish I had the energy or charisma to sing (scream) like that! Its flipping awesome! I also dig Electric Intercourse where he screams, but it is nowhere near his biggest screaming song.

A lot of times when Prince is really feeling a song he screams!! "God" It worked really well live on the "Purple Rain tour. But the screaming in his songs make it more passionate in what he is singing. Its a Prince trademark!! No one can scream like him.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.
