I had the shower poster from Controversy hanging above my bed in high school. True story.

great indeed, but it is very old news..

I bought these about 2 or 3 years ago..

I bought that vinyl bundle a few years ago.It's very impressive! The sound quality is great on these vinyl reissues.

I managed to find the 1999 one at a record shop in Parramatta when I was last in Oz. Cost only A$35 and the sound is incredible. Automatic the way it should sound.

Just need to find the other 3 now!!!

Are these really remastered from original tapes?

I do not see how that is possible when Prince has them in his vault.

I am still skeptical.

I don't take that website as official.

I got them all from eBay.

I have no idea if they are available from there, still.....

In previous threads, it states they have been remastered. It was confirmed by Bernie Grudman's camp.

Let me put it this way...

I own the original releases too, from the 80's, and I still have no reason to regret I bought these re-releases.

Is the sound improoved? I have no idea, but they certainly doesn't sound any "worse" in any way, than the old originals.

I am no technical expert, but I think these re-releases sounds as good as they possibly can.

I would not hesitate to buy, in case these are still available..?!

I Thought they would have done the next four by now.

That Purple Purple Rain looks beautiful.

I don't think we've ever really gotten confirmation that PR was remastered, but it was the first of the four to be released on 180g, and the other three have been confirmed as being remastered (and no, you don't need the original multitrack for a remaster).

I have checked and PR is remastered. Definately not the same as CD! The CD has digital clppping; the LP does not. If you check on Audicty they are different.

Now have this urge to dig up my albums from the attic even though I dont own a player anymore.

One could argue ad nauseum whether these releases are truly "remastered".

One can "remaster" without the original tapes and improve sound quality but it still depends on your definition of "remaster". These are better sounding "180 g" releases, that much is clear.

But more interesting is that these releases are only on vinyl and apparantly are not "digital remasters".

Nor heavily promoted.

Also, Prince doesn't seem to be involved, but WB / Rhino are.

That could imply that Prince cannot stop "180 g remasters" on VINYL, but he can stop "digital remasters" or CD releases.

Which could help explain why we are still not seeing any "digital remasters" or box sets on CD.

Or perhabs Prince is involved but he only wants us to listen to his best work, remastered on vinyl?

Seems like a weird thing to me, but yeah that could be Prince too...

No, they are remastered. From the original tapes (the mixdown, not the multi-track master). Grundman's people say so.
