Probably in the top five of all time favourite unreleased tracks, truly brilliant song.
There are lots of songs where Prince copies himself (not necessarily a bad thing), but this song really stands on its own.
The 09 version ... tja ... doesn't come close and is simply lacking the synergy of W&L, Eric Leeds and Prince.

No, I'm with you too. I always found the original hard to listen to due to the poor quality. RIP

I like the original a lot too, I'd LOVE to have it with a pristine sound, but I really love the smooth jazz vibe of the new one. On a similar note I also like the 2011 version of Extraloveable more than the original. I alsawys thought it's be nice if P would record an album of previously circulating outtakes and release it alongside another CD countaining the originals, to make a sort of "then vs. now" double album. This is, hands down, my all-time favorite unreleased track, and I hope that one day it gets released from the Vault in all its crystal clear glory. . That coda is just sheer brilliance. Prince and Wendy and Lisa working at the top of their respective games.

One of his best ever songs musically and lyrically. I love the clever lyrics - like it when he deals with deep, real life issues in his songs. Let's hope an unadulterated remastered version surfaces one day....

It would be a nice idea--I don't mind hearing what he'd do now at all, but I think the original's deserve release, too, and even if I didn't want to hear what he'd do with the songs now, if it would get the old stuff with decent sound... I'd be glad to have a lesser (if that's what the remake turned out to be) version of a cool song, if it meant I got the original.
For the record, I didn't prefer the remakes of Large Room or Extraloveable, but I didn't hate them either. I still like them, even in the newer forms.

It is a shame that it is not in better quality, but it is nothing for you to be ashamed of.

I thought maybe Undertow had accidentally revealed their own involvement in the release of the track. Good save there.
Now no one will ever know.

Definitely one of my favorite of his circulating unreleased tracks, along with Moonbeam Levels. It's a crime that this masterpiece hasn't been released in stellar sound quality. A true shame. * * *

LOVE the original. For me, the 2009 version falls short in just about every way. Without Sheila's drums it sounds so flacid to me. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

Is there a boot with better quality than the one on The Work? That's the one I have and it's murky at best. * * *

Ive always appreciated the raw, wild unrefined creative spontaneity of original, but the 2009 version for me took it to another level and derives it genius in terms of the technical precision of the playing. Few songs exibit that technical virtuosity in his catalog like that 2009 version. Anyway, they both should be appreciated for what they are, products of a pop musical legend in two phases of his life and career. Change it one more time..

I like the original because it is frenzied and climactic..like the world is about to end. Just like he did with Xtraloveable...Dance Electric...The Voice Inside...Wouldnt U Love 2 Love Me...Mia Bocca..Hot Thing...When Doves Cry...Life Can Be So Nice...Get On The Boat even...
He does these loud rambuncious endings that sends chills down my spine and that whole song was frenzied..even the end ..horns blaring everywhere...drums hitting every pocket on key...background singers screaming. Oh god Prince.....make my ears jizz. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.
