1987 video live snippets questions: TV or not TV? Hi,
1/ Play In The Sunshine in Rotterdam 87/06/26, 2:39
2/ Same footage but a bit shorter and with TV messages on it.
Obviously the second one was broadcast on Dutch TV that very night or the next day but then what is the first snippet??? Any memories or info from our Dutch orgers?
3/ Sign O The Time 87/12/31 @ Paisley Park, 1:18
We have the full show so what's that snippet? Was it aired on a local MPLS TV Channel or what?
This is for my online discography project so please if you have any info help.
Thanks

The Sign O the Times footage is from the 1992 BBC Documentary called Omnibus (the American version known as The Prince Of Paisley Park is essentially the same documentary with some different footage). They were given access to lots of unreleased concert and rehearsal footage, most of which has found its way into the hands of fans and collectors. That 12/31/87 show that Sign O The Times is from is not circulating as a full concert. Only half of the show is in circulation. |

I'm confused: it's something difrerent than "A musical portrait", isn't it?
I think I saw that Omnibus film back in the days, a doc with a snippets of a bootlegged audience filmed show from 1980 or so, is that the one?
Does it share some footage with A musical portrait???
Many thanks if u can provide more details! (and I stand corrected for the half december show). |

Yep it's the same one but that wasn't audience filmed, it was shot by Prince's camera team. You're referring to the performance of "Head" from Dirty Mind in New York 1981.
Omnibus does have some of the same footage as A Musical Portrait, and the footage they have in common is Albert Magnoli's footage that he shot on the Lovesexy tour including aftershows and rehearsals, as well as some breif backstage footage of Prince. It was for the Musical Portrait documentary, and some of it was lifted for use in the Omnibus doc. |

Thanks for the details, I put my hands on the doc, I didn't remember there were so many snippets!!! Now I'm gonna get a headache adding all these but it's cool
So no one knows about why 2 different Dutch snippets??? |

OK so I figured it out:
- The 2 Dutch snippets are one from a Dutch TV channel and the other from a UK TV channel (broadcast when the Wembley shows were cancelled).
What I haven't figured out is SOTT: I found the Omnubus and it's NOT the same snippet. Maybe it comes from the US Prince Of PP version??? Anyone have it to confirm? |

Should anyone remember which Dutch and British channels aired the 2 snippets, and the exact dates for the broadcasts, that'd be cool as well |

If the second clip is the one I think it is, (and features text running along the bottom of the screen statting something like: "He would only allow us to film 2 minutes of his show...") then it was originally aired on a British TV show called Network 7 that used to air late sunday mornings on Channel 4.

BRILLIANT! Thank you so much! That even gives me the exact date if it was a sunday
Now if someone knows which channel aired the Dutch similar snippet and where SOTT is from, we're done with that ha ha |

You're welcome. It's just that I remember vividly recording it on VHS when it aired.
Definitely aired on the Sunday. |
