20Ten Deluxe and Warner Bros? If I recall correctly, around the time that the rumors were circulating about 20TEN Deluxe, Prince had also been spotted at the WB offices.
Just found this - this is the only promo CD circulating that contains the song "Hot Summer".....Interesting

Looks like he may of been flirting with the idea of get back into bed with WB.

Maybe they knocked him back because the song was crap/weak.

If I recall it correctly, fams weren't impressed with Hot Summer, WB passed and Prince kind of went after fansites.

I really like Hot Summer - if I could just scrub Liv Warfield off the first 30 seconds. [Edited 11/20/13 20:01pm] Hundalasiliah!

Probably just a promo in store CD, the sort if thing hmv would play. The record company reps give them out. I have few from my local record store (remember them) to which i was quite friendly with. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

I've posited many times here that Prince had big plans for 20ten. He was wearing the album cover for a bit, even. When his proposed distribution deal went south, he just cut the album back (eliminating 'Cause & Effect', 'Hot Summer', etc., and "gave it away" via newspaper.
I've also posited that the discouragement led to his announcing that he's done with releasing albums.
He also had another project nearly ready for release, which would've included 'Rock & Roll Love Affair' and 'Screwdriver'... this was when we saw the flaming graphics on his Vox guitar and also the shirt he wore with the Yellow pants.
The Kobalt deal is mysterious... NOTHING on Kobalt's site to indicate he's with the label.
NOW he's happy to release fast food tidbits with no staying power, but he may still have something up his sleeve... "He's a musician's musician..."

So you're making up facts based on Prince wearing t-shirts, and also assumed what other songs were on a released album. Gotta love when people act like insiders...

. Hey Jerk Off... Do you know the meaning of "posited"? . No? LOOK.IT.UP. No? Lemme tell you what it means... "To assume the existence of; to postulate."
Now Va Fanculo. . (By the way, it's a bit obvious that 'Cause & Effect' was for 'the '20ten' album, since he name drops a bunch of song titles from that album in the song...)

I'm sorry, I misread for "posted many times".
But your answer with cursing in 2 languages (oh btw the second one is "vaffanculo", look it up before posting) shows how civil you are...
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
. Sorry for the angry reaction, Marco... I'm by no means an insider, and I'm not pretending to be anything. As far as spelling goes, although "vaffanculo" is the most common, it's actually more than one word mashed together... it's "slang" (or rather a dialect) for "Vai a fare un culo". Yeah, I know "Va Fanculo" is seldomly used, but I digress... . Anywho... Mi diaspace. . ~G [Edited 11/21/13 6:34am] "He's a musician's musician..."

It's a real pressed promo, for radio (I think). The credits would have been provided by the record labels in order to clear the usage of the song. So this pretty much establishes that Prince was indeed briefly working with WB on the 20Ten Deluxe project, but at some point it went south.
I don't own it. I stumbled upon it somewhere on Facebook, but I can't recall where as I'm in so many different Prince related groups on there. I can't seem to re-locate it.
No idea how many were pressed or sent out. But chances are, we'll see one turn up again on eBay soon.

Lyor and kevin Liles left WB right around that time...I beleive he had a relationship with them...

It's astonishing! Even Princevault isn't aware of it: http://www.princevault.co...ch_Friends
But isn't (as mentioned by another orger) that company providing CD's for stores more than radios? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Yeah, that's why I'm not 100% about whether it was for radio. I'm just going by what I thought I read when I saw it yesterday, but I could be wrong. Either way, it comes from a professional source/company, which is the main thing, because it'd have to be properly cleared and have the right information.
Also databank, you linked to the "Rich Friends" page, not the Hot Summer page. [Edited 11/21/13 9:44am] |

I'm not sure that this defintely means it was 20Ten Deluxe. Remember that Hot Summer was released to radio prior to 20Ten itself, and that the phrase was used in the Ebony ad prior to their interview with Prince. I think it's possible that Hot Summer was initially intended for 20Ten, and that Prince was speaking to Warner about it, not the deluxe version.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
. Yes, and I forgot to thank you for essentially proving my long standing theory (that no-one accepted). . I don't have any problem with you calling it '20ten Deluxe', as we can be damn sure that the original configuration of the album had at least a few more songs... possibly had some longer versions of existing songs, like 'Act Of God'. I'd guess that the original title was entirely different, and when the deal went south, he cut the album back, and named it '20ten'. . Anywho... thanks again! "He's a musician's musician..."

I think it was just me and you at the time
I agree with what you're saying, any configuration Prince presented to Warners would almost definitely had more songs, and things that came out recently like the extended version of Laydown.
Seems like the talks with WB started before and continued after the newspaper release which would be why there was no USA release for 20TEN, it was expected that there would be a major label release, like how Sony/BMG released "Planet Earth" in the US even though it was a newspaper deal/free with the concerts in the UK.

. That seems dead on, straight up. "He's a musician's musician..."

I think Prince went to the drawing board to WB! With a renegotiated deal that he offered to them. That included control of his old Master recordings & a brand new 20T3N deluxe album with bonus tracks. This was after the newspaper deal. I'm sure they balked at the idea! Didn't offer Prince what he felt he should get and he walked... Whatever happened in there. It soured him to do any more deals with any other record companies again... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

But you really have no information on this do you? Totally made up scenraio to fit your image of Prince. (eyeroll)

. I think that's totally possible and a realistic scenario. Or the newspaper deal could've been a middle finger to WB! "He's a musician's musician..."
