I am not one to dwell on how his music sounded in the 80's. I love much of his recent output as much as the older stuff. What I do miss is an album and a tour each year with several B-Sides. We don't get that any more. Think about 1979 through 1988 and the amount of music, tours, associated artist output, etc., that we got and compare that time period to what we have gotten from 2004 through 2013. Think about the bootlegs that were generated from 1979-1988 and what we get now.

It really is not even close. I would have though that freedom would have been a good thing in terms of output, but it has really been bad for Prince. I could care less how much money he makes now because he is free from record labels. The fan experience has been seriously diminished.

I did expect his output to continue or even increase while he was in his 40's and 50's. I thought that one of the issues with WB was that they could not keep up with his output.

Perhaps you are correct. He simply is getting older and is not capable of releasing a quality album each year, which is nothing to be ashamed of. I also think that we may have overestimated the quality of the content in the vault. If he had the volume and quality of music in the vault that he has referenced, then we would have seen more albums.

With that said, how many quality albums do you think that he has left in him? I'm guessing 5 more quality albums.

I would love five more quality albums but I dont think we will even SEE five more albums in his career. He really struggles just to get out one album that is 35 mins long with crap songs. I think albums for Prince is done. We may see 2 more I think in the next 5-7 years and I just HOPE they are good quality!!

what about that song that's too great for to hear? that he recorded fairly recently.

he could quite easily release a vault series that would run parallel to any new material. we know at least a good part of the unreleased works and they are worthy of release.

Do you think Prince was doing what people wanted or expected during the 80s? Prince could sit on the toilet and record his squelchy farts and release them as an e.p. and you'd still praise him.

I never said everything Prince does is great but I see no point in starting a topic that is basically a complaint that things aren't as good as they were in the old days. What's the point? What's to gain? Do you get a harder boner at nite because you came here and bitched about Prince and how he has disappointed you?
