Prince and the Malcolm X movie

Just watching Malcolm X on encore and saw his name at the end credits wink What was his contribution to the movie? Monetary? or something else? Nice that he would get involved in such a great movie wink

3/4 of the way through the movie Spike spent all the cash. Therefore, he called upon 'his friends' as well as contributing some of his own money too.

Oh okay that was nice of Prince to help out. Anybody know how much? Seems like that list had a few names.

I saw him talking about this a bit ago. In a interview at his productikn studio. He actually choked up pretty bad when it was brought up. Appears to have meant a lot to him.

Of course now he would say no because it glorifies allah instead of jehovah.

He was never a Muslim.

The focus is on the story of the mans journey...and not his religion. His faith constantly shifted. The journey of a hoodlum to peace broker and bridge builder is the important narrative.

Spike Lee.

To be clear...prince wasn't the only one who helped out and to what degree or percentage is unclear.

Spike needed about $15million in order to avoid the completion bond company's take over of the film. He ask several celebrities to make contributions of 2 million each as gifts.

This was not an exchange for the Girl 6 soundtrack. That was part of the WB fullfillment.

I'm sure it had summin to do with summin. A spike Lee movie with nothing but prince songs in it is much more that just a WB contract obligation.

Sounds like part of some trade or transaction.

If i had been prince...donate money to an awesome cause...and get spike to put my songs in a movie and promote them. Mean while spike lees like sweet...500k I don't gotta float back to investors. Not that they were actual investors... But there is an indebtedness a receiver of gifts feels and favors he's likely to return.

It seems u feel the two r entirely unrelated...and that seem unlikely.
