Yes, but do you know what is stated about (re)mastering by the liner notes?

For some reason, I have a pet peeve against reissues for bands that the original is available for. Something about owning soemthing for a long time or something someone owned and cared for; ala all of my Prince/Beatles/Bruce Springsteen/Pink Floyd... even if it means it's in less of a condition/quality. I know it's weird but shiny new versions of 60s-80s albums are almost fake to me haha... . I mostly only do re-issues for 90's bands that either never released an original lp or are so rare that they colst like $300+; ala Pearl Jam. . I have every album from For You to Batman on vinyl in good to mint condition. I even have two Purple Rains (one with original poster) and two 1999s just because I over play those and the CheapoDiscs (Coon Rapids) by my house has a lot of Prince compared to the one down in Dinkytown (Minneapolis). . I currently only seeking out an original D&Ps, Graffiti Bridge, and Lovesymbol. I sometimes go through Discogs... . I'd die to have one of those purple PRs. I thought those were only given out to Prince's friends, staff, and First Avenue folks? [Edited 11/23/13 18:05pm] [Edited 11/23/13 18:08pm]

Check your vinyls for BG. Those are the original Bernie Grundman mastered one's and the best sounding by far. All the rest are not equal to the original pressings.

It's a Warners reissue for audiophiles, but it doesn't sound like the "overseen by Prince" remasters. Some people are going to say it's a cash grab before they lose the master tape rights.
We know P is a vinyl fan and it's still money in his pocket, so maybe this was quietly approved.
Some artists aren't remastering CDs and MP3s; I know in the case of Hendrix's mono releases on vinyl, there were no plans to put the mono tapes out on CD or iTunes/Amazon, and that was straight from Experience Hendrix. We know Led Zep's doing a massive reissue next year so people can have decent download copies as well as CDs.

Do you know what the liner notes of these releases say about (re)mastering?

Do you know what the liner notes of these releases say about (re)mastering? The liner notes are exact replicas of the originals. "Direct fan mail to Prince, P.O. Box 4475, North Hollywood, CA 91607." Wonder where that mail goes now. The three that were redone by Bernie have his initials BG and a different matrix number than the original in the deadwax. That means different mothers/stampers were used. I am surprised that most of the discussion on the .org centers on whether or not they are remastered and not on whether they sound better than the original vinyl. To my ears, they do sound better, especially Dirty Mind. If someone has reached a different conclusion, that would be a more interesting thread. I do not see how that is possible when Prince has them in his vault.
I am still skeptical. Prince does not have the masters in his vault, he has the multitracks. Warner Brother owns the masters until Prince gets them back, which may have started already with some of his early stuff. They don't automatically come back to him, either. There are some things he has to do in the legal arena to get the back from Warner Bros. You don't need to be skeptical. There's a HIGE difference between the original masters and what Prince has.

That's she said he said. On the org. Not the liner notes. One could argue ad nauseum whether these releases are truly "remastered". One can "remaster" without the original tapes and improve sound quality but it still depends on your definition of "remaster". These are better sounding "180 g" releases, that much is clear. But more interesting is that these releases are only on vinyl and apparantly are not "digital remasters". Nor heavily promoted. Also, Prince doesn't seem to be involved, but WB / Rhino are. That could imply that Prince cannot stop "180 g remasters" on VINYL, but he can stop "digital remasters" or CD releases. Which could help explain why we are still not seeing any "digital remasters" or box sets on CD.
Seems like a weird thing to me, but yeah that could be Prince too... . [Edited 11/22/13 14:19pm] It could also be that vinyl is impossible to pirate without a loss in quality. Prince may be involved and if so it would make a lot of sense for him to keep it quiet in light of what he's said in the past about the past. Vinyl would be one experience you won't get from ThePirateBay, so maybe he found a way to beat the boots after all. Unless, of course, the HDTracks version are also remastered. The Purple Rain from HDTracks sounds a hell of a lot like the vinyl remaster to me, so maybe that's how he's sneaking them out. As for promo, it's good business to not compete with your new products, so the old shit will be there for the folks who care and the general public can focus on what he is doing now. If that's what he wants. It's all speculation.

would it make sense to transfer these onto CD ?

That's also a great question! 'Audacity' worked for me in the past, but i don't know if the quality would transfer well to mp3. . You can't put a turntable in your automobile! . Prost! "Whatever skin we're in
