Your kids on Prince?

Im an old fan of Prince. Been following him since 85...

My kids have heard a lot of Prince during the years, been with me to concerts and so on.

We hear a lot af different music at home - so I love it when they comment on Prince's music.

Here is what my son at 13 said this morning when Georg Michael's Star People was played on the radio. Jakob stopped for 2 sekunds, listened to the song and then said:

"Well, that's all fine - but there is no one singning as good as Prince" - made me smile...

Another time me other son at 17 said: "I was at this party with my friends -the party was kind of lame. Then I put on my Prince playlist and the party was jumping all night"...

Let's have your stories of your kids talking about Prince:

My 7yo girl likes many songs, but sometimes she says she's tired of me listening to Prince everyday lol

Black sweat, girls and boys and kiss are among her favourites. She likes to dance and sing and even though she only knows a little english, she likes to play with words and change the lyrics. She also likes the funny faces he makes and say he's "completely silly", which in her own world is actually a big compliment rolleyes

My 5yo was born deaf so he doesn't really care, but he dances to music when he sees others dance, just for the pleasure of it lol The only time he spontaneously started dancing was while I was looking at that "pass the peas" video... I think he likes the bass guitar because he probably can hear it better than anything else. He also copies people expressions a lot, so he likes Prince concerts because he dances and makes a lot of funny faces and my little one copies it all (so I have to take care of whan I watch, Prince is not always suitable for kids!).

Sorry but your kids opinion is invalid if he thinks prince is better than Star People '97 that song is just one of the best.

I'm feeling a bit fammy™

My kids aren't into Prince yet, but they love Larry Graham. There are some videos of Larry on Youtube singing live while playing the bass with nothing more than a drummer to back him up. They can't get enough of it.

My 4 year old son goes crazy for "Pop Life". Based on this song I was asked two questions....

Question #1: What does it mean "Everybody needs a thrill"?

Answer #1: Everybody body should have fun

Question #2: What does it mean "What U putting in your nose"?

Answer #2: Somebody is picking their nose (no need to go there!!!!)

We were watching the VMA's last month or whenever, and when Bruno Mars was performing Gorilla, they said; "He's trying to be like Prince."

unfortunately my kids, both hate his music, but i think that it's mainly to irritate me smile

My oldest daughter loves the superconductor album. And everytime i mention...that the song superconductor is really a prince song... she goes: yeah yeah i know i know....but lucky for me, Andy sang it sad

I am taking her to Andy's show in the netherlands....just keep on hoping that via via via via she will in the end (when she's adult) acknowledge to me, that i was right all along..and prince is great.

...not there yet

ps. she is only 11, the youngest 6 and she's mimicking her big sister. So i have no worries yet.

My oldest daughter is now 18 and she digs P and knows quite a bit of his music...she called me this past summer saying..."did u hear the new song by Robin Thicke (is that his name?) ,,,he's trying to be like Prince" , to which I went off on one of my tangents about how "they all" are....lol. She knows alot of P's 80's radio hits...but also knows his 90's stuff, her fave is the Gold Experience album. TMBGITW was her theme song as a child.

I have two other kids..one is 7 yr old daughter...she is into Everybody loves me,and alot of 20ten tracks...but she is really into Superconducter and Andy Allo too....Her and my 10 yr old son know alot of P's most recent output from 3121 to the present...I have to introduce them to the 80"s 'hits' every so often...although they know when doves,,LRC...etc. (the basics)...and of course they see all of his tv appearances since Im always setting the dvr and they know not to erase that! lol.

My son prefers MJ though....trader! haha

But some of todays music is starting to sway themm...damn u Katy Perry....

But with me around..they know who THE MAN is.....the PURPLE ONE of course....

Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

I have been a fan since 1979. I thought that my son might become a fan by association, like many of my friends and family. Instead, my son use say that he didn't like Prince and make fun of him- I think just to annoy me. But he always liked the song Fascination, which I found rather fascinating lol. When he was 12, I took him to his first Prince concert and he was mesmerized by the stage set up, the band, the songs, and Prince. The six (I think it was more) encores was an incredible experience and my son was amazed (actually so was I). He was so disappointed when I didn't take him to the second concert the following night. But I did get John Blackwell on video, calling my son by name, telling him to keep practising his drums and one day he can be on that stage. It was cool and my son loved it. Now 14, he has Prince on his playlists. His favourite Prince song is I Wanna Be Your Lover and he no longer makes fun of him. My son even proudly wore that concert t-shirt until it couldn't fit him any more and like me, he can't wait to see Prince in concert again. That feels good!
