Crack, a substance with more addictive power than cocaine enters the lives of many in th e eighties. The workplace, schools, the nusclear home. Nobody and no neighborhood was/is safe from the crack epidemic. It reaches from the inner city to the sprawling rural outback and the suburban neighborhoods. It has now infested itself into cyberspace..crack has come to the the Org.

something a lot of GREAT musicians don't read music
and are BAD asses anyway,

clapton...beck..HENDRIX,CURTIS MAYFIELD...THE LIST goes on
and on. that doesn't mean SQUAT,man.

i know musicians who read like mad and play classical and
jazz stuff fluently. but has NO SOUL.

it what ONE does with their GOd given ability.

still you sound like you're a BAD ass musician-so i
respect yo VIEWS,brotha.

prince-JESSE,ERNIE ISLEY...MIKE SCOTT..SONNY T ..eddie hazel...mike hampton...ALL are bad mothas. plain and simple!!

I totally agree with this, especially the last part. Ernie Isley is one of the absolute best players ever, but is virtually an unknown(track down his only solo cd, High Wire), sme for Mike Hampton, etc. Prince plays his instrument with a level of soul and emotion that most players never reach. Who is better will always be a matter of opinion, both he and Jimi(and the rest of the guys named) are superbad dudes.

tough one to call. Even though they can sound poles apart, they have always struuck me as similar players - both play the guitar orchestrally, share techniques, favour certain chords and like to experiment with new technology

I think the question you have to ask is whether Prince would play like he does if it hadn't been for Jimi

as for being better than Jimi, no freaking way. Prince isn't even in the top 30 guitarists of all time IMO.

i don't let my love for the guy blind me to that fact.

I thought that Jimis roots in his playing was directly influenced and started as jazz blues and soul and developed into rock and funk sound or rather a fusion of those sounds even Miles Davis him self was greatly influenced by Jimi and basicly the reason he went in his new direction

Your point is well taken but in my opinion all of you are wrong.

Hendrix was on a level that Prince has yet to attain. In a lot of ways people are just now starting to understand Hendrix's influence on a diverse range of music (that is still being felt today).

Prince is an untouchable talent and plays guitar great. He plays other instruments great too but has never just focused on one instrument to take it to the level Hendrix did.

Princes' influence is heard today in a variety of new music but the influence is not because of the mans guitar playing.

I've seen video footage of Prince playing keyboards and guitar at the same time(each instrument with each hand)...it's not his fault he doesn't focus on just one instrument but the boy is so MULTI-talented he flosses his styles...I still think he is the best guitar player and yes I am sooo bias but...

Jimi Hendrix in a Breeze.Jimi was Great on Guitar&Prince is Really Good.but there is a Difference.Hendrix Scared the Hell out of the Boys in Europe with His Playing ask Eric Clapton or the Beatles,Rolling Stones about the Explosive Hendrix? not to Mention the Jazz Cats got Inspired by Hendrix&His Whole Vibe&Sound.also Jimi was a tight Piano Player&Drummer as well He also Played Bass.Yeah Jimi a One Man Band as well but that is for another time.Prince has a Tight Hybrid Sound&Whatnot but aside from His Linn Programming Work I can't think of One Instrument where I'd Put Him Over a Cat like Hendrix IMHO.Prince is One of the Greatest All-Around Artists Yes.but as a Instrumentalist against Hendrix? Hell NAW!!!

I Dig Prince's Overall Hybrid Sound more than Him as a Instrumentalist or just doing One Style.the Whole Hybrid thing is where I find Prince at His Genius Best IMHO.I never said that Prince couldn't handle Himself as a One Man Band&whatnot what I said is that I feel with My OWn two Ears on Various Instruments I've heard better Cats overall but that Prince blending all of His SKills together is Something else&that is Why I dig His Sound So Much.

Jimi of the two in a Breeze IMHO.it wasn't until the "Sign O The Times" Film did I think Prince was Pretty Good on Drums.truth be told I didn't think much of Drumming on Prince Albums until Shelia E. took Over&it wasn't until Michael Bland&then later John Blackwell did I feel Drums Overall with His Sound.everything else for me was His Knock-Out Programming Skills on the Linn Drum machine that I dug.

Obviously you have never heard Prince beating the drums on the Madhouse albums (particularly "8"), "The Family", "Tamborine" or "Crystal Ball" to name a few. Because to say that Jimi Hendrix was a better drummer "in a breeze" might be a slight underestimation of Prince's abilities in that area. Certainly when listening to some of the examples I've just mentioned.
On the subject of who's a better guitarist, that would be like comparing apples and oranges (that's how good I think Prince is). I've seen Prince live many times since 1987 and I've seen him do stuff on the guitar which I didn't know he could do! So don't underestimate him.
But let's not forget that there are guitarists out there who are so ridiculously good that they're in an entirely different universe altogether. Prince is probably my favourite guitarist but he is no match for someone like Steve Vai, who is another favourite of mine. Although when it comes to some fonkin', stinkin', greasy rhythm-guitar playing Prince could probably kick Steve's ass.
