Gett Off is Prince's MOST hardcore single

When Gett Off started getting massive UK radioplay, quite some time before the Diamonds & Pearls album was released, I was seriously trippin' over the most nasty funk I had ever heard.

I was only 13 at the time, it was hardcore to me and the 'underground' respect it was receiving just served to accentuate my naive thoughts. That opening scream, the driving bass, the heavenly flute, the scorching guitar, the D&P girls (horny), the orgy in the background, the nasty lyrics...

Something about a little box with a mirror and a tongue inside...

I mean, what the fuck?! I'm sorry but that sounded illegal, somewhat serial killer like. And who could forget Vanessa, Dudley, Nell and Lenny & Benny in the chocolate factory? Little Prince wasn't sleeping afterall.
Warning: Don't come 2 the concert (especially the MTV performance!) evillol

Yep, remember it well. The Radio 1 Dj's were like "Prince is doing house now, and its better than everyone else - as usual"
The tune, when it began getting airplay was just miles better than anything else around

That original version(Houstyle) is the only version I can listen to. Why it was changed baffles me, the pure funk of that original version is just on another level...

The 'Houstyle' version isn't the original, it's a remix.
The 'Extended Remix' version is the closest version to
the original.

Maybe its his most hardcore single in terms of "the funk" (for want of a better phrase). However, I think in terms of going for all-out Prince-ness, "If I Was Your Girlfriend" is the track which most non-fans found too hardcore Prince.

And lyrically, I think that Sexy M.F. broke a few boundaries. I can't think of any other artist who would get away with virtually singing the word "Motherfucker" and have the video played on Top Of The Pops during primetime viewing. I mean - even with the "Ow"s covering up the naughty bit - NOBODY was under any pretence as to what he was singing.

Related to maxxx's 'Prince wants to be black and has been rooting for that acceptance since The Black Album' theory...?

Could be a number of reasons. Mainly, he's not considered a class rapper. Also, could be the 'Wally' syndrome. lol

Interesting. Gett Off can be considered more palatable/acceptable than If I Was Your Girlfriend in terms of it's sexual drive but 23 positions in a one night stand is somewhat more hardcore than going to the movies and crying together.

I meant hardcore, as in explicit in nature. Yes, that includes sexual imagery.

Prince is already very much a Brother but He wanted that Street element again&Hip-Hop was the hardest edge going down.Tony M. didn't get Hired for Back-up work only?there is a pattern there.
