I remember being mesmerised as a child when Prince did the splits to LRC. Ive always known of Prince's music since that moment in 82, but did not really get into him until 1989 with Batman.

I was 4 when I first heard him.My sis played Let's Go Crazy" for me. But the most vivid memory I have is my aunt taking me to see "Under the Cherry Moon" I was 6.My aunt bought me the soundtrack after the movie. I was obsessed after that. I danced to "kiss" at a talent show a couple of weeks later innocent

I remember hearing "Soft & Wet" when it came out, but I thought it was a woman singing (at that tender age, I wasn't aware that men could sing in a "falsetto" voice")

so I must've been 10 or 11 years old.

It wouldn't be until I was 12.. that I got HOOKED..

I'm rather surprised & impressed that a 13 year old would have this much.. taste.. in music.

Prince's music these days is pretty far from the, uh..

"stuff"

you typically hear on the radio..

I give you props, Mashed Potato, for having this type of "musical depth" which is, quite frankly, atypical for someone of your.. life experience..!

1 thing that is true about a great majority of Prince fans-
current & "former"-
is that they tend to also appreciate/be into other types of music, not just whatever you might think they'd be interested in..

Janey sits every1 down 2 talk at them and tell them her life story

I was born in a cattle shed...

First heard his stuff when i was probably bout 4-6 confuse I cant remember but it was My Name Is Prince, one of my brothers got the symbol album and from what i could understand then it sounded cool...

bought my first Prince album when I was about 11...
JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

About 8 I think, probably in about '88 or '89 when I heard 'Sign 'O' The Times'. I heard 'Alphabet St.' around the same time too I think.

LOL

I was just thinking about what my kids will say when asked this question!!

They'd probably be like CherrieMoonKisses and say "in the womb"

I've been listening to Prince for half my life now.

My kids won't have to "ask someone". They know Prince.

Oh, now. . .don't feel old. hug *I* was 15 about to turn 16 when I first heard "Soft and Wet". smile I was *REALLY* hooked when my girlfriend brought me a picture of Prince that was in JET Magazine (the one that was one of the promo pics for 'For You'. At that time, we were *really* into the big 'fro look fro ) She said to me, "You know the guy that sings 'Soft and Wet'? Well, THIS is what he looks like!" She put that picture up in my face and I just about died. We couldn't get through math class because we were staring at the picture so much. lol

7 years old, the song was "Still Waiting". Did not know who Prince was back then. In fact I didn't know that Prince even sang that song or even "I Wanna B your Lover, Sexy Dancer, Uptown, or Dirty Mind" until after 1987 when I got into Prince (SOTT) and had this endless thirst for more thus started buying his back catalogue and anything associated with him or Paisley Park Records. All that money spent...

I was 11 years old when I was watching the 1999 video. I was really into the song and was quite amazed that somone was singing about the year 1999 which seemed at the time to be a hundred years away.

I was around 13 or 14 when I first heard Soft and Wet. I liked the song, but I had no idea of what Prince looked like until I saw him on Bandstand singing I Wanna Be Your Lover.

I was a baby. "Prince" came out the year I was born. I've literally been a Prince fan all my life. Every year of my childhood I had a favorite Prince song..."Little Red Corvette" in kindergarten..."Let's Go Crazy" in first or second grade..."Raspberry Beret" for several years. My mother still shakes her head and talks about it. The sickening thing is, I think I've just become more obsessed year after year!

I was about 9 when I first heard 1999. I didn't really know who it was for awhile, but I can recall the first time I saw the video and it was a revelation -- so THAT'S who does that song! Purple Rain was one of the first cassettes I ever got, but in all honesty I wasn't completely hooked until I heard Mountains.
