Why Prince tours never tour totall Does anybody know why PPrince doesn't tour the whoe country or world. He did until after Lovesexy. The PR Tour was going to hit Europe then he made another. That I understand. But sometimes he only tours Europe or America. For instance Lovesexy was the last time we saw him in Houston or Dallas. He did about 5 to 6 tours till 97 when he came back on The Jam Og The Year Tour. Then the last tours. I'm not against N.Carolina but what does it have that Texas doesn't to be on the Welcome To America Tour. I don't get it whem tours skip Texas. We have the 4th and 5th largest metropolitain areas in the country. Tina Turner is the only other artist I know that will just tour Europe. Mariah Carrey maybe a few dates. Then Michael, he hadn't toured The US for 20 years. Or P would do Europe and Asia. Now for some reason artists aren't doing Asia. They're touring South America instead which makes no sense. He'd better do a big one before he gets too old. Working up a purple sweat.

Didn't you notice that P is not a mega-star anymore? Didn't you notice Fukushima? (still not taken care of!)

Maybe he doesn't like Texas. If I was a famous entertainer I would avoid Texas as well...prolly for different reasons...but nonetheless...

Why does it make no sense to tour south america when u have prince doing dates in Kieve or some bullshit.

Texas is not only one the most technological..but artistic states. We're big 4 music. Now when i questioned if P was a superstar a month ago everybody not. thought I was crazy. Why S. America or not. Australia and Asia are more upscale continents. South America doen't have that much money. They ALL can't afford tickets. [Edited 10/11/13 22:40pm] Working up a purple sweat.

Brazil, Argentina, Columbia all have affluent populations. In addition, public events seem less regulated. They tend to have billions (yes...im exaggerating)in the audience and shit...with many people attending, u can charge much less and still make more. Every time I pass through Texas, I see gun racks on vehicles. Totally turns me off...Austin city limits or not, thick gun culture disturbs me.

Actually this IS an interesting question. Prince's tours are usually short. Europe never got to see the Purple Rain tour and America missed out on the Diamionds & Pearls tour. The reason for that is quite simply that Prince gets tired of doing the same thing very quickly. He prefers to rehearse & play an entirely new set to continuing the old one.

He just did SXSW so he's definitely not avoiding Texas. I'd love to see him perform on Austin City Limits. Then he could throw Dallas (with Erykah as special guest), and Houston, San Antonio, and then swing over to New Orleans. Someday perhaps he will. But he has to make up his cancellations here in Alaska first, (which btw... if you cut Alaska in half, Texas would be the third largest state "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Prince honestly is someone that doesnt mount large tours anymore, Musicology was the last that went anywhere, now its very spotty, or residences. Prince isnt U2 or Bon Jovi or Elton John, though i dont know the break down of how many fans he has here and there, touring is a huge expense, and his days of world tours ended awhile ago. Because he doesn't want to....
Prince is nearly 60 years old, guys...The man seems content to pick and choose his spots rather than doing a global world tour...
This has nothing to do with Prince not having enough of a fanbase to do a complete world tour (that's laughable....We saw what happens when Prince does the traditional tour and pairs up with a mammoth sponsor like say Clear Channel...He gets a top grossing tour and sells-out venues like crazy)...
Bottom line: Prince doesn't seem like he wants to partner with any more major conglomerates (That's how the big acts do it when it comes to large arena and stadium tours...These A-Listers are not coming out of pockets themselves to stage these shows...They usually have a company picking up the tab...)...And that's the main reason you are not seeing any global tours...Prince being an independent act seems to be touring on his own terms these days...
Oh...and he would sell out cities in the state of Texas easily...As someone else said, he had the biggest and most in-demand show in Austin during South By South West in 2013....
It's not that serious guys....

He's doing what every musician wants to do, give a show whenever he feels like it wherever he feels like it, rather then doing a tour of numerous shows that's exhausting. the audience that comes to the shows at the end of the tour will get a worn out and less enthusiastic band/musician. I think that the way Prince decide to do his shows will guarantee the audience that they will see an awesome and energetic show. But I do admit that the last minute shows can be frustrating when you miss out 'The function of music is to release us from the tyranny of conscious thought'

and to be honest that is almost twice as much as he has played NYC (not counting the today show appearances and showing up with the NPG and Tamar) during that time, and NYC is a place every artist goes to "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Excellent question. Most major artists consider a World Tour to be North America & Europe.
Yet every year we get people (Americans) bitchin' because he hasn't been to their state for ages (1 year).

Umm correction. Texas is the 2nd largest state in mass and population. If they cut Alaska Texas would be largest. California most populous. 3rd New York. Houston most diverse city. Texas ,largest Fortune 500 state. Houston,4th largest city..5th largest metro area. Dallas 4th largest metro after Chicago. Houston has just over 6 million ppl, Dallas just under 7 million. no offense i consider this thread pretty dumb. Prince isn't consistent in his touring but he still tours US, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia. So he has exposure to about a Marketplace of 1.5 Billion People. Also occasionally he'll do a one off in some random place like hong kong, abu dhabi, rio de janiero. So factor that into that and id say. He basically tours and has toured the world. Unfortunately Prince couldn't tour china and russia in his high times because nobody could. Man islamic countries probably aren't too fond of him. Africa is Africa. However, i Can't explain south america or central america which seems to be the demographic prince lost. Prince was supposed to headline a concert for 100,000 people in china and it was to be broadcasted all across the world so it does show the chinese have faith that prince will draw them in but his music is too sexual for him to do a full tour in china. I think Prince if he is looking to expand should Try Korea, Russia, and Israel.

I guess South America having its roots in Western culture was exposed to modern western pop music quite a lot and for quite some time. Asia wasn't for the most part. A Rock in Rio was possible in 1991 but you can't imagine a Rock in Mumbai or a Rock in Beijing back then. Except for Japan, Taiwan and possibly the Philippines due to the American influence, and the most educated middle and upper classes in India's urban areas, Asians are only starting to be exposed to Western music. They have their own pop and they like it. China has its own pop and "youth culture" is still quite a recent phenomenon over there. India has filmi music and most Indians only dig that and listen only to Indian music. South-East Asia is torn between K-pop influences and its own pop crap (and it's really crap I have to say). Another thing is that in developping countries people don't have so much money to spend on things such as concerts. I doubt many people in Thailand or India would be ready to pay $125 to see prince in concert ^^ So basically until very recently, and still now in many countries, Western superstars had virtually no audience in Asia. You'd be surprised to learn that many people in Asia still have no clue who Michael Jackson is, for example. Therefore, making a tour in Asia profitable isn't such an easy thing. India isn't becoming rich, it's getting a growing middle class. Thailand isn't poor compared to Bengladesh but it sure is compared the the USA. Michael didn't tour Asia heavily. He played ONCE in India, TWICE in Thailand, ONCE in Malaysia, TWICE in Brunei, TWICE in the Philippines (under US influence), TWICE in Singapore (a developped country now), FOUR times in Taiwan (developped as well), ONCE in South Korea (developped too) and of course more intensively in Japan, which has been developped for decades. ANd he's probably the only American act to have played THAT MUCH in Asia in the 90's. I can guarantee that not every one listen to your music. I live in India, I've lived in Cambodia before that and I've travelled quite intensively in China and several other Asian countries: most of the locals I've met knew nothing but their own regional music. This tends to change quickly with globalization, though, with young people being more and more exposed to Western (and other Asian) cultures, but it's not tomorrow that they'll be exposed to American music as much as us Europeans. On the other hand, to be fair, we Westerners aren't really exposed to any kind of Asian music (pop or classical) in our own countries. The Japanese scene is one of the 3 most most wonderful music scenes in the world with the USA and UK, and it's still being ignored by us. K-pop, while being silly and commercial, is a much more sophisticated and delicate kind of pop than the gross crap that Western radios now play, but we don't listen to it either A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I think it's weird that Prince hasn't toured anywhere in Africa, as far as I remember, especially considering that he's become more pro-black lyrically and socially over the years. ---------- What utter B.S. Back in 2004 many people on this board said the Musicology tour would bomb. He went on to do over a 100 million in tickets sales. Do you think P has not done a large scale tour for almost ten years because he cannot pull it off.
If he puts out a new recording/gets the proper marketing and distrubution kind of like musicology. He could do a large venue tour just like Musciology. I am not saying P is going to sell out a Football stadium but he could do large venues if he wanted to or must do because of financial issues.
I just think he does not need the money and has not had a recording out with the proper promotion/distrubution to mount a large tour.

It means he he won't tour there. Most artists never see Africa cause there' no money to be made, maybe Migeria. Now and 100 million ticket sales. I wasn't aware an artist could sell 100 million anything. Only 1 has and that's micheal. Working up a purple sweat.
