3RD EYE GIRL and New Power Generation Bundle Package

If Prince releases another bundle package similar to "LotusFlow3r" in 2009 with one disc devoted to his rock songs (3RD EYE GIRL) and the other CD devoted to the funk tracks (New Power Generation), what would you want Prince to do differently? Musically and marketing?

On the promotional tip, go on Tavis Smiley do another 2 episode show and perform. Do the talk show circuit and grant some interviews to Guitar, Bass, Drum and Keyboard magazines and talk about the music. Lastly, one radio interview.

On the music tip: The New Power Generation album should be more collaborative. You got a band that big, they should be heard on record and let's hear what they can come up with in the studio. Secondly, Prince should sing most of the songs. I would hate to buy the album, and Shelby is singing on every song. Lastly, the 3RD EYE GIRL record should be amplified to the highest degree. I loved "Feel Good, Feel Better", but I don't want to hear Donna trying to play funk without Andrew Gouche and the Horn guys to augment it.

I dont really care. He has alienated the general public to where they wont buy it regardless of how much he promotes it. Its only going to sell to the die hards. Just press a limited amount and release it. Then move on to the next project. That way he wont be disappointed when it doesnt sell big numbers. Limited pressings, make his money, satisfy his fans and move on to the next project. It takes him too long to make and release a new album now!!

That's right on Target. "LotusFlow3r" was marked down below $5 after 2 months on the shelves. It'll be interesting to see if Kobalt will roll out the red carpet and put those albums in Best Buy, Target, iTunes etc. like any other major record company. I'm not buying an album (s) from 3rdeyegirl.com. Prince should also make it available to Amazon. I only trust third parties.

Other than the fact that Kobalt is the alternative of traditional labels, where artists own their masters, and Kobalt tailor-make their promotional muscle for the artist, I don't know how they treat artist' releases. I think they would invest in something like that next year. 2014 is the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain the album, movie, and tour. Prince would have to show some good faith. But those are a lot of "ifs".

Therefore, I think the New Power Generation record is more likely to come out first. Especially since "Breakfast Can Wait" is a "hit" on YouTube.

I posted this before, but the 3-disc LotusFlow3r set was actually marked down to 98¢ at the Target stores by me. That wasn't easy to see..

.

In the 90s, Best Buy used to put up huge displays for his new releases - up to and including Crystal Ball. After that, he just got normal shelf space like anyone else.
.

One thing I love about NIN's marketing is that they have the online-order process virtually nailed down. You can order the digital-only album in various formats, order the CD and get the downloads for free right away, and then there are deluxe versions for the die hards. Those deluxe packages include LP and extra track CDs. There are also audiophile versions at higher bitrates. I'd love to see Prince put more thought into a webstore and how it's laid out. On top of that, all of the CDs I've gotten from NIN through the mail have been PRISTINE, and they're all digipacks which are usually almost always scratched/dented/etc if you buy them from a brick-and-mortar store. I just have a feeling that Prince's digipacks would be dented up - there's a feeling of "professionalism" that is missing in all of his endeavours.

That's why I would not buy a physical CD on digital-only album from Prince's site directly from him. He wasted so much good will, with headgames, vague promises and not being professional. Prince could have a webstore with all of the things you described about NIN. But he pissed it away. BTW, Trent Riznor is a musician. Out of curiousity, does Trent personally oversee the order process? Prince has always complained, hes not a businessman, he just makes the music.

I am so freaking tired of thread titles that seem to announce something as a fact, when they are really nothing more than a wish list.

since Prince could easily do something along those same NIN lines ...doesnt that prove he doesnt want to do it soley for money?

If Prince wasn't recording music solely for the money, he wouldn't release and shoot a music video like "Breakfast Can Wait" that is on par with much of the music played on Hot 97. Prince still wants airplay, and he'll at least pay attention to the industry, while doing his own thing. The problem is will he curb his obstinate quirks long enough to sell new music to fans in the best way possible.

I hate that too. You can tell it's totally intentional, title the thread like it's some kind of announcement when in fact it's just some hypothetical nonsense.

Bitching about a thread title is a waste of time, especially when the title of the thread doesn't hint that it will happen or when it would come out. Read the damn title. If you can't, learn how to read.

Obviously I can read. Your thread title is purposely misleading, and the body of the post a pile of inanities: 1 : the quality or state of being inane: as a : lack of substance : emptiness b : vapid, pointless, or fatuous character : shallowness 2 : something that is inane
