is the nude tour to underrated? I went to the nude tour and was blown away but it seems to have been forgotten about.

If you were blown away, then that is all that really matters. Who cares if it is underrated or not? There are plenty of other tours that are rarely mentioned here. Why not tell us about your experience if it blew you away?

its a valid point, some of my awe stemed from it being only my 2nd Prince gig, my first being the Lovesexy gig at wembley 29/7/88 this was the real turning point, I was only 15 at the time and that gig changed my life, having listened to his songs in more depth since my first gig and having seen more live footage ( parade detriot & syracuse + some unofficial footage ) there was a alot to live up to and the man did not dissapoint. The show was raw stipped down and 1 of the things i enjoyed was that the songs were played in their entirety, i was also there with my best friend who was at his first Prince gig and we still talk about it to this day

I think it is! The first concert of the Nude Tour (June 2nd 1990) was the first time I ever saw him live and it's "underrated" even by me! I really don't remember much of it except that it was raining all the time. (It was an open air stadium.) I remember reading reviews saying it was all so simple. After the Lovesexy tour, which was about love & sex & God, this was just Prince playing music. Nothing more, nothing less. A perfectly normal thing for a musician to do, but after the hype that Lovesexy was in Europe, this tour felt like there was something missing. To the journos anyway. And tthe Batman album got a lukewarm response in Europe. And that was after the rave reviews Lovesexy got. And like I said, my own experience was just standing in a rain-drenched mass of people seeing (or trying to see) something happening on a stage far away. Just like my first Rolling Stones concert 8 years later. Those great big enormodomes surely don't help!

It was a very good tour, but a lot of the shows were not even an hour and a half. The Question of U got played, Bambi came back...some very good shows, but not on the level of Lovesexy or SOTT shows. Not even close.

I have seen Prince in concerts 19 times since 1987.
[Edited 10/5/13 23:54pm] Prince 4Ever.

Having seen him many times on many of those 80's/90's tours around the world, it remains my favorite tour. All these years later and I still can't quite put my finger on why that is though...

Whether great or not....a point that lingers was the beat loop that started with "The Future" and ran right through "1999", "Housequake" & "Sexy Dancer". I actually like the loop and it linked the tracks well. There were some top guitar moments on the tour with "Bambi" and "Purple Rain" highlights in that category. "When Doves Cry" is also one of the better live renditions imo.

The rendition of Housequake seguing into Sexy Dancer on this tour is awesome...incredibly funky, the bass is deep and it just grooves like nobody's business.
For that alone, this tour was worthwhile. "I'm much too hot to be cool"

I agree!!! That is one of the high points for me, along with The Question Of U - Electric Man. I love the tour. It is fun, funky, and fast-paced. I especially like the Tokyo video and the Madrid broadcast-- when some extra songs were added to the set, or some extended jams were added, it made all the difference.

My first Prince concert, it was the hottest day in Belgium that summer.Got in2 a sort of gold circle avant la lettre without paying extra.I was in front of the stage...The Future (underrated P song!) opened the concert,Question of U, Electric man, Housequake, Take me with U, What have you done...Just a great concert, in touch with the audience, stripped show.Oh, and while waiting in the sun that afternoon we heard the repetition, he played Thieves in the temple and jammed a long time...great memories Love4oneanother

A friend of mine and a fellow P collector back then said, and I agree with him, that the Nude Tour had a good opening, but went downhill after that. There was no real climax. If he had just played 1999 at the end it would have made all the difference. [Edited 10/7/13 13:38pm]

Opening segment was mind-blowing. It literally didn't give you a respite from dancing. Middle section was awesome too, Question of U etc. But it really let itself down with the tacky Batman medley and Baby I'm A Star was flat and lifeless. We don't need to mention The Game Boyz and Rosie's It Takes 2 rap! That said, it was fun; nothing like Lovesexy which was akin to a religious epiphany. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

^Yes, but that could not have been repeated anyway.

Yup. I loved that. My sister not so much, she lost her glasses jumping up and down during housequake. I trampled them.

No, I wouldn't call the Nude Tour underrated. More like underdressed. j/k * Seriously, I was fortunate enough to see it and loved it. I've never seen a bad or mediocre Prince concert.

SuperSoulFighter said: ^Yes, but that could not have been repeated anyway. Absolutely. I was just using the Lovesexy gig as a comparative as it was my only previous gig. Nude didn't have the long lasting impact of Livesexy, but, hey, I must have enjoyed it as I travelled to Rotterdam and Paris, and done all the UK gigs. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....
