WOW!!!!!! that was a GREAT read!, dude really knows his stuff!

I was surprised that he went as deep as he did into the Detroit techno connection! Being from The D, growing up listening to Mojo, Prince was THAT GUY and several techno pioneers like Derrick May and Jeff Mills (The Wizard) site Prince, and what Mojo juxtaposed him with; B52's, Kraftwerk, PFunk as influences in their sound and approach to music.

I need to save that article and go back and listen to the countless snips embedded therein. Good stuff there. Now there's a music writer who knows his stuff. (A couple mistakes, The Purple Rain shows were at Joe Louis Arena, not Cobo, but....i'll give him a pass)

Great article. I had to think of the Toure book and how this article tells me more about why Prince is an "icon" than the book.

I didn't get that necessarily ... It just told a different story.... One that we don't hear about or many of us aren't as familiar with.

It was a great read.... No need to dismiss Toure to elevate this article IMO

Even though I have always hated house and techno, this is not a bad read at all--quite informative. I still don't hear the link or connection, except when Prince allows terrible house and techno remixes of his songs, but I respect the writer's knowledge and articulation of his knowledge.
