When you've seen it all, done it all, lived life way beyond your wildest dreams....after awhile it's hard to top all that.

I think what controversy99 is trying to say is that he no longer(for some time now) surrounds himself with peers that add anything new to his music. He doesn't use outside producers, musicians, etc., that bring something new to the musical table he sits at. He might also live in a safe little comfortable world where no one challenges him or inspires him on a personal level that much. This is all speculation of course, but it's hard to deny that he seems out of touch. Where that might have been the case his whole life, he's had friends and loved ones who added something to his artistic soul in the past to provide a balance to his introverted tendencies. If we are to believe the Kevin Smiths of the world, that balance has seemingly shifted nowadays. Having a life outside of Paisley Park that means as much to him as his art does, is what is "important". I(like a lot of people) are frustrated not so much his current musical output, but with what seems to be a general malaise that has set in regarding his fans. Especially the long time fans. Other artists seem to give their fans exactly what they want, but Prince seems to only enjoy teasing his fans. Yes, the tours are great. I even enjoy most of the new music. If he's bored or artistically uninspired with his carrer path, maybe he should try connecting with his followers in new and interesting ways. Chatting with his fans or answering questions via Livestream could be a good start. More live box sets, with dvds of various tours would also be cool. Perhaps we are all missing something more to the story here. Maybe his JW beliefs state that he can only do so much in regards to being a "musical idol". I know that JW's do not approve of anyone portraying themselves as an idol that outshines GOD, so maybe that's part of it. It might be the case that he is trying to please GOD, his fans, the JW's, and his friends and family. There's only so much of him to go around. Whatever the case may be, I can only hope that he continues to improve the connection with the people who love and support him. That can only affect his relationship to his fans in a positive way.

You guys have a point, 2013 is probably going to pass without an album, and will be the 3rd year in a row not to have a new album. These singles that pop out every few months are not enough.

Prince might be getting groovy vibrations or whatever from this piecemeal release schedule, but we the masses demand fresh music or tours to mull over. It part of the excitemnt of being a Prince fan, is that he is always current and now he is not

I agree. Three years in a row without an album... That's a disappointment for me. And yes, before someone starts complaining, I know he has released some new music. But, apart from the fact that the new songs are quite weak (my opinion, of course), that's not a strong artistic statement, as an album would be.

I doubt too many people who have left this site did so because they gave up on Prince lol...

If there's absolutely nothing publicly going on in the Prince world, then I'm quite happy getting excited about other artists' offerings until Prince comes up with something. And I'll check this site out every now and then to see if he's performing anywhere (even if I can't go, it's great to share other people's joy), or any hint of a new project...

However, it's a really odd time at the moment to be a fan.

As soon as 'Rock And Roll Love Affair' came out about, what, a year ago now? I became excited that a new project seemed about to emerge. Especially as the song initially sounded trite, but had something that eventually got under your skin and even got my non Prince-fan friends telling me how much they enjoyed it. It seemed like the first proper Prince single in ages and my initial thoughts were that we were going to get a new album, possibly early 2013.

But the song came and went and in the year or so since, we've just been getting these one-off songs of varying quality. (Yeah, I know there have been some shows, but I'm talking about releasing studio music).

The 3rdEyeGirl project started to look promising (although I did dread him taking second billing on the potential album), but now even that seems to have dried up.

And then we get 'Breakfast Can Wait', quite possibly Prince's least inspiring single ever. But again, no announcement of a follow-up album to date, and an increasing sense that this was yet another one-off song with no 'home' as such.

For me, it's this lack of a sense of 'project' that's frustrating and getting somewhat boring now.

Back in the day, as soon as there was a whisper of a new Prince song, excitement levels rose and built until the album project was announced, the single released, and then that delicious moment when you finally clutched that album in your hands.

And it's still the same for any other artist out there whom I'm a fan of, but with Prince, it feels right now like we've had too many false starts in the past year to get excited about anything.

I think it's fairly obvious that the 3rdEyeGirl album was due out this year, but either interest has been lost on P's part, or somewhere along the line it was decided that it wouldn't work as his 'comeback' album, as it were.

And I wonder if this is the problem... Maybe Prince is wanting to come back after a three-year album break with something that'll wow the masses, as well as fans, and has been second-guessing himself by releasing various teasers to check the reactions and somehow not getting the results, either critically or financially, that he's expecting.

So we're left with checking this site out, in the hope that any day now we'll suddenly see a new Sticky thread with 300+ replies within the first hour, merrily talking about this new, named album project that's been announced by someone official in the Prince camp...

I hope it's soon.

Just kidding, I get bored now and then too. I anticipate new releases as much as anyone. I was hoping this year we would see something, but there have been plenty of one-off releases to keep me satitated. I hope a new album materializes soon though. Buckethead and John Zorn are releasing an album a month? That's impressive.

His "true fanbase"?!? What exactly is that? Is that the bitter contingent that haunts this site throwing down judgements on everything from hair to setlists or is it the people who actually still like the music, go to shows and enjoy themselves and have good experiences?
